i was gonna take it but the night before the course i got the flu! now i can't find a convenient time for me to take it!

Any questions that anyone has regarding this issue can probably be answered by Doug Bishop (MDFresh). Since he actually created the certification I am sure that he has the information about it.

Whether or not, you actively teach and where. Also, does the cert provide adequate grounding in the fundamentals of the tricks?

I ask because I'm surprised that the prerequisite is a basic level of skiing and that it can take you to a 'teaching' level in 3 days.

Actually its a refined method of teaching basic tricks like 360s, rail grinds, how use get the most out of a pipe, and grabs at ski schools. Probably so that they can make more money, but it is safer as well,

The best part is that it forces the hill to maintain the park so the people paying for lessons are happy.

even though i dont find it sorta gay, im giong to get it anyways, because if i get that and my lvl 1 instructor this year i get to teach park and get paid at my ski club. so just bite your lip and take it if u wana gets paid

What this course does for instrutor's is save there ass if some kid gets hurt cause you were hitting the park with them, the retarted parent can't sue your ass. And the more certifaction you have the more you get paid. But I STRONGLY encourage people to keep the 'free' in freeskiing and let people define their own style.

yeah. if you're putting it down then you don't know what it's about. (it's not Psia) It really has nothing to do with 'style' and tricks. it's about progression and insurance. It teaches you how to teach a person to begin jumping and makes sure the instructor knows what they're doing and not just some dude with his level 2 CSIA that knows how to hit a jump. Last year it really only went upto 180s. I really liked the pipe part of it, it made my pipe riding better. There is nothing bad about this course.

I heard two distinct trains of thought here. One on the merits of a pedagogy of newschool progression in a safe controlled environment, and the other on the view that "organized" instruction stagnates its evolution.

Well, I must admit that I have to side with the first argument simply because I believe that an understanding and accomodation of a student's basic wants and needs is better for the longevity of the sport. The "Don't be a pussy! Just do it!" will more oft than not land groms in the hospital but make for great video.

Most new progress seems to occur during the summer camps where riders can push the boundaries of what's possible in, you guessed it, a controlled environment where the primary instructors are, right again, very qualified (coaching certs et.al.). Not to mention the tramps, water ramps, and other tools available at their disposal.

It's an INTRODUCTION. Where you take it from there, is up to you...

Anyone that wishes to contribute to this insanity is misled in my opinion and are thinking with the wrong mind set. If you wish to teach freeskiing setup a camp...dont support starting this sanctioning and qualifying bullshit. Thats the reason I quit mogul skiing to do what im doing now. don't ruin it.
