What exactly does the softness rating on a boot mean
Usually its out of 10 or 100. It just refers to how hard the boot it to flew. Racers typicaly like really stiff boots, you usually stick beginners in super soft boots. If you jumping you want something medium to stiffer.
100-110 is really stiff.... a race boot more or less
anywhere around 80 is pretty soft and anything less is just too soft to be able to carve/go fast and stay in control
come to think of it, the xwave 7s are an 80..... the teneightys are an 85. meh, its all the same. 80-90 is perfect if you want something soft, but still stiff enough for high speed carving/all mountain use
Depends a lot on your weight and how aggresive a skier you are. I have X-Wave 10, they have a 110 flex and I want something stiffer. I find that they are far to easy to flex. I weigh 195lbs though.
If you charge hard on the steeper stuff, you will want a stiffer boot.
