same ski, different graphic, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I think they are a great beginner pow ski. If you are just getting into big mountain skiing they are great. Super light so it's easy to hop turn on point, plus they are soft and great for carving pow. The only drawback is the softness, once you get real gnarly your not going to want to charge on something so soft probably.
the gun lab is much more burly so if you want salamon big mnt. skis go with thoughs. I demod a pair of Pocket Rockets and they were just too soft for me.
get the seth vicious. the gun is made out of foam, and after a season or 2 of decent riding they will pack out and become shit. K2 makes all their skis with wood... and wood is good... more lively, durable and sexy. plus teh seth vicious is a way better ski
I think the PR is a bit more narrow than the gun in the tip and tail. I have the PR from 03-04 and I road of the lift at PC today with guy who had Guns. They appeared a bit fatter, but maybe that is just because his were shorter.
On another note, all this talk about the PR/Gun being week and soft is complete BS. I'm 6-1 195 and charge with complete confidence on them. The softness in the tip and tail is really good when you are bombing pow and crud because you don't catch your tips. The mid part of the ski is real stiff and solid at high speeds. I don't know much about the K2's, but I've flexed them and they definitely seem as flexy as the salomons.
I demoed some PR's and I liked them in pow and soft snow but when I got onto the hardpack I found it was extremely difficult to ski fast without them chattering too much and you get a real feeling of being out of control.
the pr's rock, of course they'e light and soft your not racing, and i def wouldnt be able to go any b igger on the vicious for example, they're awesome for powder and friggin mobb, but the labs
foils are dank...and as far as the chattering goes you dont really notice unless ur skidding a turn or on boilerplate... I ripped up the double blacks at whistler yesterday and the skis were killing it, maybe the best all mtn skis (dont listen to my sig, i was having a bad day)
The guns are slightly stiffer than the old pocket rockets...
I skied on them in Steamboat mounted in the center, I liked them in good snow conditions and the handled OK on the bottom of the mountain too. I like the mantras and the gotamas a little more though.
yea i am looking for a pretty osft ski that i can mess around on and have fun. I would use it for tight east glades mainely and some bc booters. I would use em at jay, ski down the glades then hit up the park at the bottom.
