Has anyone been documenting any of this over the last 15 years when the sport has evolved. Has anyone even thought of capturing the roots of this sport on film and making a documentary? I think it would be amazing to have one, being that, as a skateboarder, its so cool to look at Dogtown and Z boys (i think i speak for the most of us) because you can really see where the sport stated and how much it has changed. Someboday should be doing this.

dude im sure that if poor boyz or some big film company wanted to do it, they definately have the vid for it, but honestely, i think its to early, i mean skateboarding being cool has been around for a lot longer, but maybe in like 5 years, when people that started newschool skiing aren't still pro skiers, then that would be way cool

Still dude, half the people in the country dont even know what newschool skiing is. Maybe snowboard they might be able to do, otherwise man, we still got 10-20 years to go

it was released about 2 years ago dude. And it spans about 30 years give or take. Freeskiing has been around for maybe 12. I think when the time is right there definetly will be a documentary made

skiing has gotta be mainstream

Skateboardin is popular, freeskiing is not. Once it gets more mainstream and people know about it they will make a movie like dogtown. It could take 60 years for freesking to get mainstream.

Half the kids in my school think that snowguns throw out paper, coconut shavings (etc...) and the other half snowboard, but thats just my school.

Its not only that, skateboarding has been a real revolution. The taking over of a new urban sport over the streets of all major cities in this world. Freeskiing is still at an infant stage, and I have to say, if it has only half of the influence that skateboarding has had on our generation, then dont worry, there will be plenty of documentary to tell the stories about our sports'pionners.

There are probably about a hundred and fifty kids at my school that shredd the mountain. I think three or four ski, and only two of us are any good.

The problem with it is that in 30 yrs or so people will be saying that the inventors of the sport were tanner hall and jon and those guys. We gotta always keep in mind the true early guys. JP, JF, Mckonkey, Moseley, Vinnie, Candide, Ahhh who am i kidding, i dont really know all those guys. But those who do gotta make sure they get their dues somewhere down the line.

skiing is cool, and the newschool movement is even cooler. however, you still have to live somewhere near a mountian and have a decent amount of money to ski. skating can be done almost anywhere in the world, and all you need is a pair of shoes and a deck with trucks. skating has taken over. skiing will never be able to do anything like that. also, skating started out in the 60's. wait until jp auclair and vincent dorian are at least 50 years old to start talk of a documentary. i'd be willing to say that a good amount of people on this site have been skiing park since it's insurgence. i know i have, and i'm 20 years old.

you guys seem to be ignoring the whole Hot doggin thing from the 60-70s, and then the freestyle movement of the 80s. there has been plenty of evolution of the sport. and, in the earliest days of skating, the only thing they had to relate to were: surfing, and, you guessed it, skiing. skiing and surfing were the 2 origional "extreme" sports, at least in regards to modern technology. why definatly not acceptble for the mainstream condumer market, i think a company with the funds to back such a project (like pbp or MSP) should most certainly do it. i would be incredibly eager to see something like that. cause just like skating evoloved, so has skiing. you guys are just looking at the past ten years of our sport, not its entire evolution.

if you wanna be technical about it, the documentary should go back to cave drawings when people tied pieces of wood to their feet with strips of animal hide to make navigating snowy terrain more managable. we're talking about freestyle/freeskiing here. so i guess we could go pretty far back if you wanted to include b.c. stuff and hot dogging. i just figured people were talking about the newschool movement.

fuck yes... super revolutionary for skiing... and yes tanner will probably be described as the most progressive unfortunatly which sucks because it was people like douglas, jf, vinnie d, and poirer who gave the sport its legs

ok so the guys that were part of the start... jp, jf, porier, vinny, douglas, kent, mcconkey, tanner, jon, steele... I mean you can't really just name a few people everyone has contributed in one way or another... I mean porier had those swtich backs to win the us open big air a long time ago on rented out skis and jps stuff. Jf has had some of the most progressive stuff back in the day with switch 7's and flairs in the pipe. Vinny and douglas started to ski and jump backcountry lines. Tanner, steele, jon really came alive with the park starting to add style and creativity, also showing that skiiers can hang with boarders. I mean the list goes on and on...even with the new guys blowing up, they are all adding something to the sport. But yeah I think that it would be cool to do some sort of doc from a long time ago to present, and possibly show where the sport could be going

dogtown and z boys does nothing to tell the history of skateboarding. it tells about a couple of kids who rode down hills. skateboarding today has nothing to do with that. theres way too much to these sports to really name an originator. guys like gonz, natas, jason lee (yes, the actor), they took skating from its backyard ramp short shorts and no shirt phase to street skating. so id say that they deserve more credit themselves. but regardless, you cant pinpoint who started newschool skiing, because it changes so much, and different people are involved every time. one could argue that the first guy to do a tip roll would be the originator, and someone else could say it was the first guy to land and take off switch. its too hard to determine.

this is probably the most important point in my opinion. plus early freeskiing is horrific. early skating is still steezy and innovative.
