Ptex Problems

Well there are a few holes in my base and I want to ptex them up but I keep having a problem. When I get the stick burning It wont drip clear so when I drip it into a hole It looks really bad. I dont care that much about looks expecially the bottom of my skis but is there a way to avoid dripping really bad looking goo all over my skis?

when you get it lit find a scrap peice of wood and then rub the tip of the stick agianst it so the black stuff in it comes off so only the clear ptex is left, then fill in your holes

GArret there are 2 colors you retard if you have black ptex then it will be black if its clear it will be clear just to clear that up for you

hold it at a sharper angle, then your ptex will burn better and wont smoke, which causes the black shit.

they are fine they filled in the gouges completly which is all that matters because you just wax your skis after ptex so there is wax on top of them.

just keep rub the p tex on something before you do it, make sure that it is clean and keep the area clean and just giver er good

i have never had good luck with this either. when it starts to drip, the ptex stays on fire until it hits your ski. It then temporarily burns on your ski, making the cleap ptex black. its shitty. the only thing ive found that helps is lighting it until it starts to drip, and the blow it out. then just smear the stick on your scratches or holes or whatever and it will go on clear. its kind of a pain cause you have to keep relighting it until the scratch is all the way done. it works well though.

all that brown shit is burned ptex. it happens if you use a torch because it gets too hot. i would also recommend getting a base welder and using better ptex than drip candles. its really worth it for park skis. go to tognar toolworks and buy ptex ribbon and a base welder.

Im gonna try to use a hot glue gun with ptex in it on a pair of old skis o see if that will work. Dont tell me im stupid, I already know that.

get a black one, get it really hot drip it at an angle. then go over it with an iron.

if you have one use a blow torch, but other wise jsut deal with it, just like you dont ride on the tops of your skis, noone sees the bottoms while your riding

the base welder thing is about the only way to do it without getting carbon build up. it's basically impossible to get it perfectly clear with a drip candle.

Just keep the flame burning blue. Hold the candle at about a 30 degree angle above your metal scraper then only start dripping on your base when it's burning blue nice and clean. Get your scraper back under it if it starts getting out of control or burning yellow. It just takes practice - buy a few sticks and burn right through them onto something metal and you should get the hang of it. If you have an iron, get some Toko base repair powder - it is a harder material than p-tex candles and is easier to use.

if the stick of ptex your using is dirty, that would prolly play a role in why its comming out dirty, but really it shouldnt matter, as long as u get ur holes covered up, color , especially on the bottom of ur ski, shouldnt really matter, skiings not a fashon show.

ur bases dont really need to look pretty especially if you are already sliding rails and all that shiet, i wouldnt even bother with PTEXing them because you jus gonna have to do it again in like less than a month
