Why the hell do powder skis cost so much....

so hear me out, look at the '05 K2 Made'n AK and the '05 Public Enemys. The construction is the same, same ptex, same abs sidewalls, same triaxil braded core. Pretty much the same ski, only the Made'n is 1 inch wider, but the same material. But for 300 dollars more? Why? It is only about 10 bucks worth of product that they are adding, yet it costs twice the price. Remeber why k2 is a leader in the market? Cheap park skis that work, like the fujative and the PE. So if the Made'ns were only 400 bucks, or 450, they would sell so much more of them, since there would be no demand for the more expensive skis. Why not?

You could start all kind of arguements like this... a better one might be, why do the 159cm Fujatives cost the same as the 179's? Shouldn't they be cheaper? NO!

because K2 knows that even if they drop the price of the mad'ns they will not sell any more of them. only true powder skiers are going to buy theat ski even if they price is less

I can tell you with very little reservation that the Seth Pistols, and I now assume the Seth Vicious, are built considerably better than the lower end skis. It took me literally dozens of rock hits with skis to put a single core shot in my pistols, and these were not small rocks. I have abused things, and only today did they begin to show any signs of damage. Guess I shouldn't go mach 2 over a field of pointy jagged granite... but fresh snow is all deceptive and stuff.

I think it's because pow skis aren't so popular and they need some cash from them. But people are still buying them because they need them and they are willing to pay that much. If no-one would buy them then they would lower prices maybe.

k2 can lower the price on the fuji's and pe's cause there gonna sell a lot if they have them lower. Since they know that there isn't as high of a demand for a powder ski they can keep it higher. A powder ski also usually last a lot longer, so its more of an investment for most people.

yup. demand is lower. all sorts of people ride skis like fujas and PEs, but only people serious about skiing get a ski like made'ns. therefore, there is ALOT less demand plus the fact that most east coasters/ midwesterners dont need a ski like this, the demand is SIGNIFIGANTLY lower. and yes, these skis are built better. quality control is much tighter on most higher end skis.

They are made to a higher standard and also cos they produce a much smaller number of skis this puts the price up for them and this has to be fed onto the consumer.
