The craziest thing happend today

Me and a group of about 8 or 9 other guys were skiing at the local hill (Bittersweet) when the craziest thing happend. We were just standing at the top of the terrain park when a girl starts yelling for someone to get help because a kid was dangling from a chair. The kid was pretty small, about 80lbs., and being held by 3 other snowboarders who couldnt seem to pull him back up on the chair. The chair wasn't moving so we skied over, took off our skis and made a circle under the kid, ready to catch him when he fell. Finally, after about 5min. the kid dropped about 20ft. and one of the guys in our group caught him before he hit the ground. Meanwhile the one ski patroller that showed up just stood back and just said 'good job guys.' But what really pissed me off was that earlier that day it was announced by the management that anyone caught doing an invert would be forced to leave and never return for the season. Excuse me, but we just saved their asses from a lawsuit. If that kid had fallen and gotten seriously injured/killed the resort would be screwed.

yeah its kinda stupid cause you saved the resort from being screwed and you still cant do inverts, but just do them when the ski patrol isnt around, and have someone watching out for the patrol while you hit the jump

ya, the invert policy is unrelated to the kid falling from the chair.
play it smart and use your best judgement as to when you should do inverts, when the patrollers aren't around.

hey socatoha, before you start callin me a cockmaster think about how a little peice of paper with some writting on the back is gonna hold up in court. If some kid ends up paralized, his parents are going to find some way to get the money, and most likely it will come from the resort.

It is my experience that ski resorts do not require a signiature to purchase a lift ticket, therefore, you have not 'officially' agreed to any legally binding document. A flimsly little piece of paper probably *wouldn't* hold up in court. Of course, the only knowledge I have of any legal systems is from TV and popular fokelore, so don't flame me (please). If the kid had a season's pass or something equivalant, than my theory kinda goes off of a 96' cliff...

Was the kid a snowboarder or a skier? I saw a skier chick dangling off a lift once... same situation, they were holding on to her but couldn't lift her up. She kicked off the skis, then fell down and a patroller guy caught her. But he got a ski boot to the face... it looked pretty brutal. Sorry, totally unrelated really, but it reminded me...

yes if they get hurt there is still a way for them to sue. and the resort will probably settle - especailly if they're paralized.
