i wish people would film me! or at least do a good job filming me. This year is different tho! I have people who only film and are damn good at it too!
wtf is wrong with you???.. pro skiers make the sport.. they are liek the masters who we all look up too and try to learn from.. the sport probably wouldn;t progress the way it has if it wasnt for the pros showing us how its done so that we can follow them and maybe we can become pro too
i was just talking abou this with a friend of mine who is up and coming... pro skiers are/go pro not only for their talent but because they have enough savvy or luck to get hooked up with the talented photographers. sometimes is happenchance, however most the time it's alot of work to meet and associate with the right people to help propel your carreer. and I'm not talkin' about just any photographer, I'm talkin' about skilled guys who get photos out and published.
Yeah. Its all about marketing, and self promotion. Like, we all know that Dash Longe isn't the best skier. his old segments he never used to spin more than 5's, and never tech stuff on rails. just style. He could probabaly just market himself, and promote a product really well. Sometimes really charismatic people will do better for a company than some hard-on who can ski really well.
Dash is badass... i wasn't bashing him. just an example.
Being a pro is more than just being a good skier. Of course being good is a big part of it, but when companies are looking to throw down sponsorships, they want skiers who will represent their company the best. Thats where the charisma comes in. Companies need guys who are going to push the brand to the extreme. Where ever those guys go, the company wants them to put on smiling faces while wearing their hoodie or their t-shirt. When they're on the hill they need guys who talk about how amazing their skis are.
But as mentioned, good photographers and videographers are so key. Honostly the way something is filmed can turn an average trick into something insanely sick. And connections are always important at getting your photos and film marketed. Remember, it's corporate america. "It's not what you know, it's who you know."
