How dangerous is freestyle??

Is freestyle very dangerous, like how often people get hurt? Do you have some story. Does sometimes people die, of doing this???

peple die from doing just about everything. freestyle is no exception. skiing is inherently dangerous if you don't use your noggin. just think about what your doing, get some help at your hill from people who know what there doing, and use common sense. don't ski above your level, just progress slowly.

if you stay cool you'll be cool.

You know, i ski since i'm born, and i don' t have problems to control my speed or anything like that, i' am also the best skier of my school, i have alsodone the dutch ski championship, so, you know this is no my problem, i don't meen peôple how day by crashing in a tree or in an avalanche, but like doing a jumps, and make a bad fall....

people get wrecked all the time. some of the best freeskiers can go down cuz of injuries sustained from jumps. brett carelson is one that died kuz of his injuries froma jump. at our mountaion last year a dude broke both legs and was in quite the coma. it does not matter how good u r, u can always wreck yourself. concussions happen all the time and those head injuries can kill u. u just gotta b careful, wear a helmut and use spotters.

a snowboarder died at sundown last year. i think he was high tho, and trying to crash when dared by friends during a small competition. im not completelysure with that tho.

and it was either last year or 2 years ago, i was at stowe and a guy died. he was a novice, got out of control and hit a tree.

dont worry about getting hurt man, it goes wiht the sport, eventually you will get hurt doing it, maybe not bad but something will happen. ive had 13 broken bones, 4 were from skiing i think

my dad thinks im crazy when i told him im probly gonna start doing inverts this year. I decided to mention the fact that you can get just as messed up from racing when you fly around turns at 50 mph out of control. He saw my point.

yeah its definently one of the most dangerous things out there..besides the dangers of the terrain, the whole invert and big air thing make it like 10 times worse...u just have to know what ure doing I guess..somethings are more dangerous though, like MotoX or even I think ski racing can be just as bad

skiing is the safest sport ever, the is no way that you can even injure your self no matter what you are invincible... well skiing is dangerous but as long as you wear a helmet and try to ski within your limits then you should be fine, yes people get hurt but usually doing stupid things

Skiing is relatively dangerous, shit can happen at anytime but you will most likely be pretty damn safe if you stay in control on the groomed shit. Park skiing is really safe or really dangerous, it depends on how you treat it. You can be a puss off a jump and be safe, you can also do a 900 and be really safe. With skiing yeah you are sometimes throwing your body in multiple directions while going really fast, sometimes 25ft in the air, but you work up to crazy off axis flippy spinny things. If you are smart and start off small and work up to the harder shit WHEN YOU ARE READY you SHOULD be ok. Of course conditions change, you get tired, you gear fucks up or something and that could send you to the hospital. Its all about doing things in steps, make sure you know what your doing and you should be pretty good. You will most likely get injured throughout the course of your 'career', it just comes with the sport. Already Ive injured my shoulder badly, bruised myself and broken my nose. Will this discourage me? Fuck no Im gonna go harder this year. Be smart, have fun.

yea, skiing CAn be dangerous, inverted manoeuver can always turn bad...

BUT, if you pratice on tramps and cdiving board before, you'll know how to react when somehing goes wrong while you are inverted, so smaller chance of getting seriously hurt.

AS for big mountain, knowing your limits will prevent you from major infuries.

I asked that because my father thinks that i' m crasy and he doesn' t want me to do all this shit.
But i want to do it. I just wanted to have others people opinion. He did when he was youger paragliding what i found more dangerous...
He will brobaly buy me a better helmet and a back protection.

take an avalance course if ur really into big mount. and never ski down a line that you think u will not make it. Always stay positive, if u think ur going to crach, u usually will and get hurt pretty bad. in the park, just commit to the trick that u are going to do and visual how ur going to do it b4 u hit the jump. it also help when u first practice on a tramp or at least something with a soft landing.

Wear a helmet. If your worried about your well being, just wear one. People die because they hit they're heads. And if a death occurs while wearing a helmet, then it was probably an accident where a helmet wouldn't have made a difference. Like, say, falling off a 200 ft cliff.

I believe that most casualties occur from deadly shootings on the ski hill. The gang activity on the slopes has grown in the past few years. The prevalence of hand guns and baggy clothing has increased drastically during this period. It is not rare to see two shootings a day at any given midwest ski area.

Yeah, just don't try to label park skiing as a dangerous sport. Unless you get to the level where you hit massive specially built kickers, it's no worse than hockey or football. You probably stand as big a risk of seriously hurting yourself while driving as you do skiing (unless of course you are a massive idiot blasting down downhill course type trails doing 60-70mph, totally out of control)

1) Start small and work your way up.

2) ALWAYS follow the rules of the terrain park, written and unwritten. If you have questions, lap the park a few times and just observe behavior.

3) NEVER second guess your maneuver before you throw it. Hesitation will get you hurt. Commit to every trick you plan to do fully.

Those three rules will greatly decrease your chance at injury. Nothing is certain. Just use your head. It's a high risk sport, but that's half the fun of it.

If you respect and love something enough, you learn to accept the risks involved. True- accidents do happen- but accidents come with just about everything. As long as you use the right equipment (beacon) take the right classes (avalanche safety) and ski with a budy- you can lessen your chances of getting hurt.
