i ski about 50% park and 50% groomers and other stuff, i live in the midwest, lots of crappy snow, no pow, im about 5'6'' and 130lbs, agressive skier, and sorta rough on equipment, im looking for a ski that is fun, durable (last more than 1 season), and do well both in and out of the park. i would center mount them and im going to breck for a week, which ski would do better out there, mountain and park? any input would be helpful
I have the Mojo 80's. The suggested mount is damn near true center (The Jon Olson Mount). It says to mount them 9cm back to ride the entire mtn, which I did and I feel they swing fine. They are a beefy ski though. I'm still trying to decide if the flex pattern is around the Jon Olson mount on them or not.
both are great skis, both very strong. They are also both stiffer than most twin tips, which i like cuase i can actually ski them. I am 5'11" weigh 170 and i ski a 181 mojo, my buddy weighs about the same and skis the 181 scratch. You would probaly be pretty set with a 172 mojo or either of the smaller sizes scratches. Nice thing about both of these skis is they are designed to be skied at almost centered, mount them at this mark! they rip. I prefer the way the Mojo skis over the scratch, I also like the construction. Also I htink the scratch looks kinda dumb, but that is personal preference.
My choice would be the Head, but i dont think you can go wrong with either, find the best deal on either.
i live in ohio and have similar snow conditions to you and i have the 06 scratches. theyre really good on groomers and pretty good in the park. i mounted them about 2cm up from the modern mount point and i like them alot. i would reccomend them but ive never skiied mojos.
I ride 172 mojo 80's and love them. It all comes down to flex. If you want a softer ski for butters and whatnot, go with the scratch. If you want a stiffer ski, better on groomers at high speeds, go with the mojo.
My mojos are at jon's recommended point, which is -2 cm from true center. I find I can carve fine, but it takes some getting used to.
If you don't ride switch that much, I'd go with -5 from recommended, and if you hardly ever ride switch, go with -9.
FINAL VERDICT: Both skis are amazing, and I have ridden both. The mojo is probably a little tougher, but both skis hold up pretty well. It all comes down to whether you want a softer of stiffer ski.
we dont really have a mtn to carve on, on a run i might carve like 8 times, our runs are super short, and i have 1080s for carving that are mounted at the regular spot
omg this year's scratch FS's are so sick. Thats the ski you want. I think i might buy them next year when the 07's come out. They're stiff enough to shred the hell out of those groomers. Yet they own in the park as well.
i think i can get the mojos cheaper, but im not sure i want that stiff of a ski, but i havnt rode either the mojo or the scratch fs of this yr, i rode the white and black mad trix from a few yrs ago and iv rode last yrs scratch fs, all i remember it that the scratches were soft, and the mad trix was heavy, and super stiff
Haven't skiied the Mojo's but from what everyone tells me, they seem very similar to the NEW scratches. I would just get whatever you can get a better deal on.
