Why I am NOT going to compete

So i came to a conclusion tonight. for those of you who know me, im a snow-obsessed freak just like the rest of you, but tonight i realized something. i wasnt skiing for myself. last year it was all about the competitions, getting sponsored, etc. until i got hurt. for those of you who havent had a huge injury, they change your whole attitude. you gain a respect for the mountain and your body you never knew. learning to walk again is such a wake up call to how weak you really are. Your first day on snow, ITS A JOKE. you have a fear that anything could trigger these same emotions you have had for the past year all over again. and then you wake up. you realize you dont want it to happen again, and that skiing isnt about competing, having a status: especially for girls that because you are one of the few out there doing this that guys worship you, and it isnt about sponsorships. you wake up and realize its not about that. its about you.

sorry i had to get it out. you guys can think what you want, but its true, and for those who criticize me, you have a lot to learn.

werd. i am sorry you feel that way, since i hear you are so talented, but yes skiing does need to be for you. if you stop doing it for yourself then it is no longer fun like many other things. its a good decision in one way, but you are closing the door to an oppertunity. i say just ski for yourself more and do comps for fun and not for getting sponcored. sorry me no spell well tonight

yup. skiing for yourself and trying to meet your own expectations is hard enough. Tryin to match other people is impossible and will just get you hurt - your ego especially.

steeve: hahaha, that's funny shit...and i've know plenty of kids that have fucked themselves up so bad, not only to return, but to kill it even harder...also a good attitude to have is don't let a previous injury hold you back... you only live one time and one time only - i know how tough injuries can be, but they can make you stronger and more determined person than you ever were in the first place just as easily as not, it's up to you

What wrong with trying to match other people? Way to many people are sitting around 'thinking' about to much of this stuff, way to over analize skiing.
If iam out skiing its way more fun to be around other people and see somebody throw something huge and your like ' wow, i gotta step it up now.'

This is just my thoughs so dont trip out on me,
But its like that article in Axis, somethting about 'has skiing lost its soul' Its so anoying to read stuff like that, i mean dont you have anything better to talk about, who cares. Its just so lame talking about 'soul' in skiing.
just do what YOU want.

I understanding what your saying and plus why the hell would i care if you compete or not. But look at it this way, when you dont compete you still push yourself and go big and all that fun stuff and there is still the major risk of getting hurt. So what difference if you compete or not becuase there is just as much risk involved. The way i see it, when you compete you have fun pushing yourself and the other competitors to go big, however, if you do the best you win and if you get hurt there are already people there waiting to help you.
But in the end its your choice so good luck. Im sure you will have a kick ass time anyway.

thanks alot for your comment *steeve*, sorry to burst your bubble but i HAVENT read axis since i got the free issue with powder like a year ago or something. but i am sure my views like dions are a lot in the same. in reading what i wrote again, i think its not something for people to argue against because i'm not simply saying that i am giving up because of it, i am saying is that my injury helped me to see what i was missing. how i made skiing what so much of my life was to only realize i was skiing for the wrong reasons. its not about your image, or about caring that you are skiing on 4 year old ghetto skis, and discovering what is about i guess could relate to what you guys said was the topic of dions commentary, going to the soul of skiing.

Well Brooke, you gotta do what ya gotta do. Skiing for yourself is the most important thing. As for the worshipping you cuz you're a girl freerider....sorry babe...you're nice and all but......haha...just keep being postitive and that injury won't bother you anymore. It doesn't fully heal in one year. Mine is just now feeling really good. It didn't bother me at all during the Skier-X the other day. Just give it some time and KEEP DOING SOME SORT OF THERAPY.

Competitions are what you make of them. If you don't take them too seriously and just have fun, then they are great! What better way to meet new skiers and people just like you? IF you take this approach then I find you do better too, because there is less pressure on yourself.

yah brooke i totally agree with that i started to realize that i wasn't skiing for myself anymore it was for the company and since skiing is suppose to be for yourself, you should ski for yourself, and do whatever u please. comps are alrite just make sure your not doing it to get sponsered, unless tha makes u feel good.

competiting can be nerve racking, sometimes its hard to throw down, thats why it's way funner skiing for videos, when your on use the footage, and when you suck, edit it out...
You don't have to drop out of all competitions, you may still want to enter some, just go with what you feel is right...

yeah!!! go homer. being sponsored, and winning comps is always a bonus, but I don't see it as a reason to ski. do it for yourself. if it all becomes comps and working your ass off for some sponser, then you have lost the reason you started skiing in the first place. as I heard someone say, but don't remember who, 'do what you love, the rest will follow'.

but to some, skiing is a job, where they can be put under pressures like that and still have fun doing everything. I agree it isn't near as easy as just being a lazy ski bum 'for yourself', but we all look up to those people who you guys are saying are doing it for the wrong reasons....
