NS might actually be on its way to selling out...

When that forum poll was first put up about whether or not the NS members thought that it was selling out (NS soldout-o-meter), I checked 1, NS didn't sell the fuck out. But if you look at the poll, a healthy 23% of NS members think the website has sold out. At first I didn't think they had any basis or grounds to really support their position, but now there is. If that poll came out again, I would probably check 9 or 10.
What's the deal with this showcasesnowboards.com banner?
They sell absolutely no gear relating to skiing, with the exception being Anon goggles. The prices aren't anything special either. The only other products on the website are Burton. The site isn't even finished yet. What I want to know, is why is a snowboarding shop getting ad space on a skiing website, when other skiing companies have been refused ad space. I don't know the details as to why that predatorwear deal never worked out, but I do remember a thread about it, and I rememer that predatorwear wasn't given any ad space. Is showcasesnowboards.com giving back to skiing? Are they sponsoring skiers? Hosting competitions?
Maybe, like I said I don't know what's going on fully, but it doesn't make sense that skiing companies have been refused ad space on NS while other snowboarding shops are being given space. Would someone care to explain?

They probably have good reasons why they have this ad (showcasesnowboards sell Burton, skiers buy a lot of Burton clothing) and why others were refused (like Predator Outerwear, for their non-futuristic image of skiing and asshole nature of their representatives that actually came on here bashing NS behind an anonymous username).

Oooh, the predator rep was an asshole? Well that makes sense, I wouldn't give ad space to someone liek that either.
Still, I doubt that the majority of skiers by Burton, it still doesn't make sense to host a snowboard shop. But at least NS is making money, so its not sooo bad.

Newschoolers.com isnt selling it, it is making money. How the hell are doug chris and paul gonna get money if they are spending alot on this site, and alot of their own time working on this site? Yes, ads are good, they give money to NS, which is the skiing comunity. And im guessing this snowboarding website gave more money to NS then the predator did. And dude, if you dont like it, and think they "sold out" then suck a dick hoe.

Chill out pussyfoot. I'm just saying, it comes as kind of a mixed message that NS wouldn't support a skiing company in place for a snowboard shop.
People on these forums are always talking about companies that are giving back to the sport, and from the looks of it Showcase is not. I just wanted to know what is going on. The fact that the predator rep was an asshole to the admin's doesn't help, but surely there is some other skiing company that would like to advertise to 60,000+ skiers.
I didn't think that Showcase gave anything back to skiing, maybe the do, but it is unlikely. And yes, I understand, that for the site to keep running, the admins all need to keep putting more money into servers and hosting etc., all I am saying is, couldn't this money have come from elsewhere?

If ns was changing itself, in an effort to make more money, purely for the sake of making more money, then it would be selling out. Getting coin from some company in exchange for an adspace isn't selling out, it's business.

Also, never ever use a newschoolers' poll as a basis for fact ever again.

Alright, I will stand corrected.
Excuse me for citing an NS poll, sometimes I like to think that the NS user base sometimes responds to the polls seriously, but clearly not.
JibRemix's post was the only one that actually answered my question, so thanks for that. The rest of you complaining about me hating on snowboard gear, which I am not, post elsewhere. I had a question, it was answered, thank you JibRemix.
NS hasn't sold out.

Why the hell do you care how NS makes its money? It doesn't affect anything you do on this site. You haven't donated shit, so I don't really think you have any room to talk.

That's the problem; people seem to have totally gone way off track ever since that poll went up. The original reason for the poll was a comment about NS admins saying things to support companies just because those companies had paid for advertising. Who advertises here is not a big deal. Just ignore the banners if you don't like them. Fuck, the admins have to EAT... the point was that when you're buying an ad, the admins shouldn't whore out their opinions at the same time. I've seen a lot less of it since, and the fact that they put the issue front and center should be enough on its own to convince you that they at least care about not giving that impression. And by the way... obviously anyone who advertises here is giving something back to "skiing"... they're giving NS.com money.

You got it... it's a shop that's part of Whistler resort... so it's part of their thing.

We have TONNES of traffic that never make a username. They simply come to the site and browse around looking at all the various things on the site.
In January last year, 86,600 unique computers logged on. Our unique visitors (which is a much more real number than members) averages from 60,00-87,00 or so during the winter. Then it's lower in the summer.
