File suffix

i know theres been a thread about this before, but i couldnt find it. how do you get your computer to show the file suffix (.doc, .mov, .avi, etc) on a pc?

if windows
> open windows explorer
> tools > folder options...
> select the tab labeled view
> deselect the option labeled "Hide extensions for known file types"
> hit "OK"

If that is not it, then I have no idea what you are talking about.
