I've thought about moving to utah or colorado and getting a mtn job, but here I am finishing my college applications and I'll never be a true ski bum...All of us ski a fair amount, but who here is a true skibum that left it all for a continuous powder day
wow.... dont do that
if i did that, my parents would kill me
they would sit me down on the couch and talk to me for 2 hours about my future and how important it is to keep being a straight a student
ok, i'm 24, business owner and get to ski a 2-3 times a week. stay in school (or better yet, drop out and start a sick business like i did) and then you will be making bank and controlling your schedule and able to ski a lot. if you wanna do the ski bum thing, just do it for a season and see (one year of your life ain't nuthin'. either way, you will get to ski a decent amount (but one way you will have a future and $$$$$$$$$$$)
yeh man i wanted to do that for th elongest time, but after to talking to people like ^that guy above me, i have noticed that all i need to do is start a company(which i was planning on doing anyways) so i can make my own scedual and still get to ski...either construction/fixing homes...or i am planning on starting a ski manufacturing company...got a name and a logo and everytrhing..
I'm bummin it
I went to college in Denver to satisfy my parents, did more skiin than schoolin, graduated then moved up to the mts, this is my 9th season. I'm broke as a joke but I get to ski everyday and don't have to live in a shitty city.
Uh, when your ski bumming, you don't exaclty need to listen to your parents. I am gradutating a semester early next winter and then I'm movin out and skiing/working every day. Gunna be sick as hell.
^ you say that now but.......anyway im looking go out west and live there afer college also like some other have said. I think it would be dope to set my self up in tahoe or whereever so im close to the mountains. Looking to be a golf pro 3 seasons then in the off season get part time as bartend and work at the resorts to i dont hav to pay for skiing. that would be dope and thats my plan!
i'm definitely not a ski bum but i dropped out of school so i could work all summer and save up my cash so i can ski every single day all winter. didn't go quite as planned so far due to a shoulder injury but i still always get in a good 100 days
my parents did that. they were in and out of college skiing the whole time. they lived in a garage in Boulder, a tent at Snowbird, a tent in the parking lot at the Lange boot factory, the Alta Peruvian at Alta for a few winters... It took my mom 7 years to get out of college and my dad 10. They had an akita named Prince Miley O'kelalni or something (Prince Miley of the Snowflakes in hawaiian, where my dads from).
My dad went on to write the Powder Hounds Guide to Skiing Alta.
Legit fucking parents.
One thing you can do is get accepted to a school and then ask to take a year off and hold your acceptance. I can't remember what the term for that is. I'm thinking of doing that. Ski bum during the winter and then try to bum my way across America.
same here. Sounds like I can get some life experience, ski like a mofo, and be more mature when I enter the college scene. Let alone save up some cash if I can.
