Volkl Karmas

I know there is a shitload of threads about these, but nobody addresses how wide they are, ski mag practically labels them a powder ski...

I am searching for an all-mountain ski, about 50% park and 50% on piste elsewhere, i rarely ski what is deemed "backcountry" or even more than 6 inches of powder...

a little help please?

Yeah the Karmas are like 85ish in the waist, good for powder, but also good for park. They are seriously one of the best skis for what you want to do. Don't worry about the width being overkill, it'll be fine.

oh wait...are you new to skiing or new to newschool skiing? The Karma is a lot of ski if you are just learning. The stiffness is a little bit to overcome when learning, but if you are reasonably good you should do fine. Also check out K2 Public Enemies. They are about equal in width, but not quite as hard to ski.

I'm a very experienced skiier. About a year into newschool though, I bought the Line Skogens 2 years ago and they couldnt take the mountain like I wanted them to.

I just got a pair of Karmas... the only day I could take them up it was nothing but ice, rocks and trees.

I think they're an 87mm waist, and I came from a 64mm GS ski. I was VERY concerned that the Karmas would be slow edge to edge being that my previous skis were much thinner, and had risers under the bindings. The Karmas were a joy to ski and turn over on.

Despite the fact that they're so fat they're also incredibly lively if you really push on them and load them up.

Ski lightly on them and you'll be less than awe struck, but push your limits and take them to the edge and you'll fall in love.

Yea, karma's are 87 underfoot, pretty stiff, so good for groomers/high speeds/carving. and are a sick sick ski. they sound perfect for you

Karmas, Public Enemies, and Troublemakers are all great for all-mountain. I personally don't like the PEs, but apparently I'm the only one.

^^ You mean the Line Assassin MTX.

Rode em last year at Mt. Hood for about half a day.

They're a good ski, but I prefer the shape, flex, and construction quality of the Volkl Karma.

To each his own.

Comparatively to my previous skis the Karmas are MUCH fatter.

Not to mention the stack height on my Karmas with the Rossi Axial 110's is also MUCH lower than the height that my GS:11's were with the race flex plate and Race 614 bindings.

Yeah they make fatter skis than the Karma, and I've ridden powder specific skis a couple times over the years... the Karmas certainly aren't as wide as those, but they're no skinny stick either.
