In response to stephen_beast's question, a lot of the people who run the camp and coach are professionals who ski for a living. Not every sponsor gives their riders thirty thousand a year, and so these guys have to have some income so that they ARE able so ski and not work for their money. Plus, a lot of camps rent hotels (for a whole summer) which must cost a shitload, plus they have to maintain said hotels. Also, lanes have to be rented, couselors paid, administration fees covered, INSURANCE INSURANCE INSURANCE, and last but not least MEALS!
Yes, camps are spendy, but necessarily so. And I think it also serves as a good weeding-out process- only hardcore skiers will really be ready to dish out the cash to get to go to camp. Otherwise we'd be flooded with frat boys and posers. No offense to any frat boys here.
