things are looking worse and worse for the ski season. once december 31st comes and goes, the negotiating leverage of the employees will basically disappear. following the christmas holidays, the resort typically operates at a deficit until march break hits, thus management really have no incentive to settle until the next big wave of tourists arrives. intrawest's earnings at tremblant during the xmas season account for approximately 25% of total earnings over the year. in other words, once this week passes, the resort has lost 25% of its profits, and really has no reason to settle. my guess is that management plays a game of chicken with the employees, hoping that they will cave first and accept a deal out of desperation.
perfect example, the hockey lockout. once the season was cancelled, the players had no leverage for negotiation and ended up taking a deal over the summer that was worse than what they would have received in january.
unless this strike is settled by the 28th, expect a pretty shitty ski season at tremblant.
