so i know im far behind and its supposed to be really easy, but whats the best way to butter. im guessing you just wind up, spin and lean forward at the same time? im gonna spend like 8 hours learning them next time i go riding, so im just looking for some hints to maybe shorten that learning period. and yes i used the search bar and all the other threads were shit.

its hard to explain but i just use my hips for momentum and then just lean forward, make shure your bindings are tight so you dont pop out.

Buttering, one of the most useless skills on skis. Good for shin bang though.

read the second to last issue of freeze. basically, go switch, lean back spin a 180 on your tails while buttering, then while on tails, pop onto jib and jib it

lean on the tip or tail of your ski and put your weight on the uphill edge as youre pivoting.

I think it depends on how big you want it and what you use it for. If youre just screwing on shuttles, and want the tails high, u have to jump and lift your back a bit, you cant just lean for ultimate hieght. But before a rail, or spin, its best to head switch and lean back and spin.

butters are not useless. being able to control your skis in as many ways as possible only makes you a better skier n the long run.
just throw your weight around. don't force it, if you use your weight correctly you can butter with little effort from your leg muscles. lean a lot, and have your boots as tight as shit w/o being uncomfortable.

when you butter, make sure you are actually just on the tips or tails. i see so many kids just like spin around with out leaning at all and thats just retarded.

the trick is to tight up your boots.
you put your weight on your tail/nose and turn on them when you're 180 you use your momentun of your tail to pop just like you would normaly ollie and here it is.

I started out doing butters going switch and pivoting on my tails. Then once I got the hang of it I went to nose/regular, then tail/regular and im working on the switch noses.

From the snowboard world, (as my brother explained) a butter is a 180 into a press (either nose or tail) and then you can pivot or do a another 180 or a bigger trick for all that matters after that, yet it appears most of the kids on this site just think it is a pivot on your tails or nose, but thats what a butter really is my firends

#1-This is skiing, not snowboarding. it doesnt have to be exactly the same thing.
#2-Your brother is wrong. a butter is basically a manual, but its usually done sideways or while spinning.

I believe that the definition of "Butter" may be a bit arbitrary, and your defintition, or interpretation may be damn well right, but growing up with a semi-pro snowboarder as a sibling, and watching the Afterbang, it is clearly evident that in Jussi Oksanen's part (he basically butters into all 4 7's) that is a 180 into a press, but i will definitely give you the basically a manual

Well at least you have that to back your definition up. I think its mostly just a general word used to describe riding on only the tail or nose of your chosen mode of sliding across slippery white stuff.
