JP vs Julien review

I thought it would be helpful to give a review of this ski since it is usually hard finding a pair to demo. I am 5’10” and 150lb.
These skis have been skied 6 times in total all at Alta.
-In 12” of fresh Alta powder these skies are the bomb. Great for cliff drops and especially tricks off cliffs. They have super float. If you are a shorter guy, 5’7” and above I would not worry at all about the length because of how light they are.(in comparison they are way lighter than my old pocket rockets which is considered a light ski.). Because of the soft flex the ski is very forgiving if you do not land totally centered, I think this is probably the biggest bonus for this ski, it makes you look like a super star even though you might not exactly be one.
-In 4-6” of heavier Alta powder the skis still performed very well off drops and tricks off drops, However, they were harder to maneuver in steeps, I think it was due to the lack of side cut?edge to edge was harder to obtain. It took some getting use to.
-On crud the ski performed good. I like a softer ski(perhaps due to my years on the PRs) in crud so I thought that the ski performed well. Edge to edge was not a problem. The same could be said for groomers, but lets face it, that’s not why you buy these skies.
-In park, it was a bit too long for rails but it would be nice off kickers.
-Overall, if you live in an area that gets considerable snowfall this ski would make a great choice. I would not conider it a great all around ski, but if backrountry booters, cliffs and the occasional romp in the park and even crud is your thing this ski fits those needs very well.

I dont think that youll be able to find a pair to demo, but Decade, Sports Den and Lifthouse should all have pairs that you could take a look at them. I know Sports Den does for sure amd its way close to teh resorts.

heavy alta powder is so much lighter then the lightest southeast ak powder. so i bet theyd be big time different here

I'm guessing that these are the 05-06 version. Great review. There has to some reason that almost the entire Armada ream rides them in the BC. I'll get mine out this week and put my words on them.

Ok, got to ride my JPs yesterday in 8-12" of fresh in tahoe.
Terrain: mainly tight trees, drops, powdery moguls, cut up pow.
My opinion: These skis totally live up to the hype. Soooo stable, never bailed on one jump/drop (biggest cliff was about 15-20'). They are very easy, surfy to ski and they do a lot of the work for you. Very responsive, snappy...yet they felt firm on crusted stuff. I have no complaints. I even nailed a 180 into some pow and I know the raised tails helped. Armada is holdin' it down with this ski IMO. I can't wait to build a booter.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I didn't want to get bitched out for not using the search bar. I am looking for a mainly all-mountain/powder ski that might see the occasional park. I just have a couple questions about this ski:
1. I am fairly big: 6' 170ish and ski agressively. Is this ski going to be too floppity ding dong for skiing hard all mountain. How is the flex compared to the old Scratch BCs?
2. My other option is the 186 Mojo 90. Might this be a better choice.

this ski would work for you (it allows you to throw it pretty hard without flailing). i wouldn't take it into the park though, maybe just for some booters. But all around these sticks are soooo hot, they stomp everything and are pretty quick. I haven't rode the mojos, but from what i've heard i'd go jps.

I'm bigger than you and I love the things in soft snow. It depends what you mean by charging aggressively, but to be honest, after almost 15 days on them, I've never had a single second on these things in pow that I've thought "too soft". They just kick ass and they get better as you get used to them. However, they really do suck on the groomed. So just straightline that shit down to the lift and get back up to the good stuff.

well i could give my input too i suppose

rode about 15 days on mine this season, on everything from ice to crud to 4 feet of powder.
i have mine mounted 3 back from center, which is excellent for riding switch
Im 5'8" 175lbs, so they're tall compared to me

in deep powder - absolutely amazing. they float so well, and their weight makes them easy to manuever, whether it be on a wide open face or into the trees. They are a dream on cliffs. THeyve seen some 30+fters, and just kill it like a champ. Even at their width, face shots and epicness are not hindered!
steeps - I have not had a problem on the steeps. Loved them. so easy to turn, stable (even though they are soft. never have they seemed too soft. theyre just about right!)
crud - Not the best ski for crud, but not too shabby. wide enough to bust through the shit, but this is when the length (at least for me) gets a tiny bit tricky, but still very managable. If its icy, they arent the prime choice, but they work if needed (but so could any ski that has a nice edge).
groomed - It's far from a groomer ski, but hey, sometimes you'll end up on one. At least with my time on them, I've been able to carve (with some effort and getting used to) even with the ever slight sidecut. They are pretty solid on jumps, but their purpose is outside of the park and groomers.
to sum up: they are dope
