people with style like Pollard come the closest, in my opinion, to making it artistic. it's a sport, though, so artistic expression is always going to be secondary at best.

ski movies i think are allready an art of sorts, but i think to make skiing an art people would have to watch you and see you as if you were in a movie, and to have that much controll would be quite a demanding thing. also art, or atleast good art, has some sort of meaning behind it, and i think it would be overly difficult to express a meaning through just skiing..when the skiing is documented on film theres an extra element that helps style show through and makes it become an art, but without that i don't think skiing can be anywhere close to a traditional art (that was alot of rambling so i hope somewhere in there there was something insightfull)

If you can get skiing to imitate life, then yes, Skiing will become an art form. All art is is an imitation of life, that stirs up thoughts, ideas, and emotions in people. So in someways, it already is.

with Laura's definition in mind, remember that many people consider skiing to be a lifestyle, so can something that is a lifestyle become an art? i'm not saying one way or another, just posing the question.

i think thats true to some extent but i don't think art is an imitaion of life, i think it plays on lifes ideas and manipulates the feelings that come with it more than it tries to copy them

ok everyones been all like oh shit this movies artistic so that means its sick. well you know what artistic is gay, you dont have to have an artistic movie for it to be good. do you watch ski movies to see car time lapses or some emo style captures of a pro walking around on a beach. come on, this isnt a fucking art show, its skiing. i can't remember whos sig. it is but hes right "what happened to sex drugs and rock and roll, now it's aids crack and techno."

Art is a way of expressing yourself. If you express yourself through skiing, then skiing is your art.

film, still or video, is presented as art. the act of skiing, is physical activity. dancing, lip-singing, ice-skating, and all that crap is not art either in my opinion.
of course, i AM wrong and i am aware of it.

art is an expression of self, and for most people, that just what skiing is, is it not? i mean like a way to vent and just do what you feel, i like to see it as an art rather than a sport, cuz things like skiing and surfing seem to have more soul and expression than other sports, i think setting them apart
