I am going to be in tahoe for the holidays and am planning on spending at least one day at alpine for some backcountry-type skiing. No avy training + no touring bindings = no real backcountry for the moment, but i'd like to have a taste. See, i grew up in cali, but spent the last 6 years in NYC, so i have totally forgotten how to ski anything but ice, but still want to do some backcountry-type skiing. I ski trees all the time here, but am looking for open bowls and other fun things to ski beyond little white paths cut through thick tree cover. Any recommendations?
i know! the weather is really scaring me! i just talked to a friend in SF, who told me that it feels like hawaii -- all warm and tons of rain. this sucks. can you guys start doing some snow chants or something?
ugh.
but yes, alpine is on the list. it has been ages since i've skiied anything in tahoe, but i remember sugar bowl being my favorite place when i was little.
