I'm 5'9" 150 lbs and skis 65% grommers, bumps, trees, everything else and 35% park. I want a good solid ski that will allow me to carve down anything at mach 10 while still allowing me to progress in the park. I have been skiing for 13 years so i can handle almost anything. What ski do u think i should get? Im thinking either the 179 PEs or the 177 chronics.
i think the 1080s are quite similar to PE's, and i haven't ridden chronics.
from what i understand the chronics are pretty similar to PE's in flex etc...
slight difference underfoot - the PE's are a bit fatter in the new model (85 for the new model PE's, and 80 for the chronics) - but if you are doing majority all mountain i'd prob go with the K2's..
If you wanna have fun with the skis, and are talking about buttering and really flexy stuff then i wouldn't go for either - id go for an invader or a fujative..that said, based on 35% park riding - either the PE or the Chronic should be ok, and they are both solid skis
You should also remember that the '03 1080s you are on might have softened up a bit over their life, and the flex of them might have changed a bit, so if you want something similar, maybe a more park specific ski is what you should be looking at
I havent skiied the chronics but i heard the PEs are more durable than the chronics. From personal experience, PEs can really hold up to rails and the bases and edges are nice but the topsheets of the 06 ones, while never delam, get scratched and chipped really easily.
i find PE's too stiff. Chrons are a tad softer and much lighter and more lively and snappy so i'd pick them over PE's. Pretty similar ski but nicer to ride.
the PE's are great skis u dont notice their weight at all on the slopes. Their stiffness gives them great pop but i find them not durable on rails but it might have just been the rails i was on they were pretty crappy. i havent ridden the chronics. By the way they pe's dont have any durability probs its only superficial scratching on the ptex topsheet but its really easy to fix
i have chronic wides and they are super sick. super lightweight and super durable. great for groomers and carving. very swell for park and havnt tested them in much powder but im guessing it will be excellent
