Despite the face on wind, the skiers managed nevertheless to offer a good show, displaying all their talent, namely the juniors, which showed where the future of freeskiing is heading. One name stood out head and shoulders on this qualification day of the Rip Curl Freeski ‘05 powered by LG Mobilesand that was young Canadian skier Alexi Goodbout, team Salomon, who not only lead the Junior ranking list in both disciplines but also placed second on the open slopestyle qualification, throwing a great variety of technical tricks with sick style. Henrik Harlaut, the Swedish skier sponsored by Scott was second on the overall junior ranking, and qualified 6th in the open category, followed by his younger brother Oskar. Nicolas Vuignier, a Swiss 4frnt young skier was third overall. Rip Curl young gun from Sweden, Blayze Bramwell, placed second on the junior slopestyle and fifth on the combined ranking.
French rider from Rossignol, Vivien Thiery headed the halfpipe qualification with two consistent runs full of air and alley oops, followed by the other skier that pushed the level higher today, his team mate the french Xavier Bertoni and his 720ºs. German Thomas Hlawitschka, from the Rip Curl & Völk Team, was third with quite a good amount of air and 720 spins.
The slopestyle was limited to the rail line, due to the wind, and once again, Rossignol skier Xavier Bertoni displayed his skills on the different rails winning easily before the Canadian rising star Alexi Goodbout, and another fresh face on the scene, Roy Kittler, a Dynastar rider who mastered the wave rail throwing stylish 270º and 450 out slides.
Due to the weather forecast, the organization has decided to do the half pipe finals tomorrow, the slopestyle taking place on Saturday.
