in reply to Desert Warfare being easier for the U.S. I think we have done well with our expirences but its not proven. And besides we dont just fly planes over and drop bombs. We use the M1-A1 Ahbrams Tank in mass numbers to take out the ground troops we face. WE use many ground forces. ITs a team effort. The new armys motto is such a joke to what military services stand for. Its all about teamwork but thier motto is 'Be An Army OF one'

Tim does have a point with respect to collateral damage. There will be uprisings in other countries with Arab populations, and Turkey actually has a high population of Kurds. US action has led many to believe that this would incite the Kurds into violence for vengeance. Collateral damage is possibly a highly convincing prospect for no war. What the world needs is a giant battlefield, where everyone can just go fight... no collateral damage lol.

Fittest isn't supposed to be taken literally in this sense. Our obesity rate is ridiculous. In this context fittest is what Tim described it as or, the ability to survive and largely influence an interdependant system of states. And whether you like it or not, we're right at the top. But yea, we're not the fittest literally at all.

Every country in the whole damn world manipulates its environments for their own benifit. What the hell are you talking about fool?? Even third world countries do it, actually they probably do it better than you do because they care about it being there for any length of time, sustainable land for sustainable and continued resources. Not like the USA that are the worlds' single biggest producer of CO2 gas amongst other toxins and greenhouse gasses. Don't even try and say you're the 'fittest' nation, you're far from it.

And even if you are talking in Darwinian terms, who the hell do you think you are to claim that you're the 'fittest'/best race in the world? The world cannot support american consumption rates, doing things like encouraging china to integrate the use of cars is not a good idea.
supporting green technology and mass transit over highway development would be a much better way of using our resources.
we should be trying to lessen our dependance on others by promoting domesticly grown biofuels instead of going to war.
i could go on forever.
The US sucks. we could have so much potential but our leaders are soo curupt that i don't see much change happening... it has to happen in the public first.

Integrating motor vehicles into China would help them immensely. This comes from the same person who commented on the enormous C02 production that comes from America. Imagine if every person in china drove!!!! In Bangkok (sp?) motor vehicles are integrated just like any other city in the united states except their cars aren't as new and consequently not as environment friendly, people who work outside in the city have to wear those filtering mouth mask things. Snomaster wasn't even saying that. He was saying that we WERE trying to integate them into China, and that it was a bad idea.

Pollution wise, you do have to understand that America is a very large country. In a lot of European countries you can take a subway anywhere you need to (even 4 hrs across the country). America is very vast and this mass transit that works well for small countries can only be applied in densely ordered cities (which it is).

I actually have never heard of us trying to integrate vehicles into China. And if they are, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, because China wouldn't be purchasing bulky American vehicles, they'd be driving those small european creations. People driving in China equals even more oil consumption. If your ideas about oil wars are jaded right now, just wait until something like that would actual spur huge oil debates. I'd like to read whatever it was that the person who mentioned this read, cause I've never heard of it, and it doesn't make sense for it to be true, but hey if it is, let me see it.

Andy, I have met a lot of American tourists who're cocks, I've met a lot of non-American tourists who also suck so don't try and argue with that, it means nothing. All my arguements are supported and backed. I know a lot of people who have lived in the USA, people who do live there and kiwis on holiday over there. I see the USA on TV every day. I see a lot more non-biased news and information material from around the world than you do over there and they sure as hell don't think a lot of America either. And no I'm not just America bashing, there are a lot of countries I could make like comments about, including my own.

to be honest, i feel bad for some of the conservatives cause they are so under-educated. all of our problems have arisen in the last 200 yrs... do conservatives really think that we can continue this consumptive pattern and have society reverse things after it's too late?
why not try and be smart about things now.

we have the capacity to green our economy and not even sacrifice quality of living... if these fuckin oil heads didn't run this place!

a green economy would not even take jobs away, just merely shift them...

i agree with many things that libertarians say except for that the environment will be cleaned when it is economically feasible...

how about eliminate income tax and instead tax based on consumption and pollution and impact...

i am kinda rambling, i don't want to go to far, though i could, my major is environmental studies and policy. and also note that i understand that my ideals are different from what i believe to be publically acceptable, though it sucks.

I'm not sure what you mean by a tax on consumption, but that's exactly what sales tax is (for some reason though I think you're talking about the squandering of resources). I also thought that cities that don't meet the pollution standards of the government, don't get subsidies that they would otherwise receive. A tax based on impact? That seems pretty ambiguous and too subjective to be feasible.

If libertarians were really concerned about fixing the environment in the most plausible way currently, they really would push for using a lot of nuclear power. But alas people aren't educated enough to understand how safe it can actually be so this doesn't help fight the 'evil oilers' anyway.

The problem with a green ecomony is simple economics. Capital input versus profitable output. For the capital you put into running a green economy your output is significantly less, and hence less profitable. I don't see how there's a good way to maintain the economic state unless the government was able to subsidize losses due to the potential of using other fuels. And that's a ridiculous amount of money.

the problem with my consumption/pollution/impact tax is that it is too subjective and some sort of bueaacracy would need to be in place to institute it.

my idea is not quite a sales tax, because my hemp jacket would have less or no tax compared to, say some petro-chemical jacket made by a chinaman, though both would have a similar retail price before any tax.

as i said before, i have ideals, but understand that they are not all politically feasible.
if anyone has an idea on how to make green taxes work, speak up. i want to promote sales of products that have limited impact and discourage sales of products that have larger social and environmental impacts (yeah, i'm a commy huh, not quite).

Approx 20% or your income as tax
ACC (Accident Compensation, Rehabilitation, Prevention etc etc service.) - levy
Petrol Tax
Deisel Tax
Tobacco Tax
Alcohol Tax
Road Tax
Interest Tax
Bond Tax
Inheritance Tax

and a whole lot more that I can't be bothered writing.

And the government wonders why we don't save for our retirement, hmph.

Well if the manufacturing costs go up because of the taxation than the cost for the consumer will increase too. So it will still 'tax' the people, because their money won't be worth as much when it comes to buying manufactured products.

If only the 'enviromentally unfriendly' materials were taxed, then only the products using these materials would go up in price.
