It depends on how many songs you want. Oh yeah, they dont make minis anymore, there nanos.
2 gb Nano- $200 500 songs
4 gb Nano- $250 1000 songs
30 gb iPod- $300 7500 songs
I personally ski with the shuffle because there so light and small and only $100.

i have the video now, but if its specifically for skiing get the mini, its solid metal casing, way tougher that the glass covered video, but 30gb is so hot

yep i have the nano and i personally tried to snap it and its built pretty tough, it just bent a little and went back to normal once i let go. and ive dropped it plenty of times and its a beast. i love it for skiing too cause it doesnt freeze like the reg ipod or the mini because it has the flash drive...

haha, ipods holding a bazillion songs is just stupid anyways. if you actually get around to listening to that much music, you need to get a life. all i need is like 50 songs to keep me happy on a 12 hour trip.

i really want to get a mini cuz they are like indestructable becasue this kid i know has one and he lost it in the snow for like 10min. and he found it and it still worked fine.

If you drop it in the snow, that wouldnt hurt it all. Im not trying to hate on Apple Minis, but the ones I get are shit. I bought mine for $250 right when they came out and the click wheel stoppped working after 3 months. I got a new one, and now the battery is dying. Whatever you do, buy the apple care. 3 years coverage instead of 1 year.
If anyone wants a mini, I might sell mine. Im probably gonna order a new battery first though.

I had a mini and it was great but just way to small. My music collection is about 5000 songs and I couldnt decide what songs to put on the mini. Go with a regular Ipod and you'll love it. I never notice it even when I have it in my pocket in class or at work.

nah not for me...i am getting to the point where i need a broader range of music indtead of like even 100 songs. it just gets repetitive after a while...i agree with u in saying that they dont need like 6000+ songs, but i think like more than 500 is just fine...

I don't even have 500 songs on my mini and it's easily enough for me. Although I am still trying to get more because I have room for it

I got the ipod mini and i love it holds over a thousand songs the only bad thing is it will lose alot of battery life when it gets to cold

Haha, If you listen to the same 50 songs over and over you need to get a life. There's so much good music out there. I have almost 5000 songs on my iPod and it goes everywhere with me. That way I never have to say "Shit, I really want to hear some Atmosphere (or whatever else) right now but I don't have it loaded up." If you really think there are only 50 songs out there worth listening to you're seriously missing out.

honestly, regarding the video I dont use it barely ever
I watch a movie sometimes in bed when I can't go to sleep and the only reason I use the IPOD over a tv or the computer is because my bed is lofted at school and my room cant be effectively setup to have a screen within view and I dont have a tv in my room at home, so yea its fun to watch some stuff on it every now and then...

I load up a Shuffle for when I run, bike, and ski. They're small, light, and damn near indestructible.
I have a nano that I use for everything else, ie. travel, work, etc.
I found that I was almost never willing to futz with the controls and crap for the music while I was being active, so just doing a fire and forget with the Shuffle works great, and the piece of mind that I'm not going to destroy it if I bail into a log on a decent, or crush into the ice on a missed landing is priceless.

I found after this weekend that if I don't have the new IPOD on hold that I somehow... randomly push the pause button all the time. This worries me because I don't want to thrash the thing around but next time out I am going to set a long playlist and just forget about it and put it in a sock instead of trying to pause it and change songs all the time by attempting to press buttons thru my coat

alright for christmas daddy got me an ipod video. im deciding whether or not to go get the nano 4 gig. i can ski with the nano. can i ski with the video, or will the paranoia and possibility of falling not let me? i dont know how often ill actually need the video function. i mean i have tons of ski and other ski i CAN load on, but seriously when will i need it? does anyone out there ski with the video or do other shit? or for like me, who has probbaly about 2-3 gigs of music on this computer find the nano to be sufficient?
i dont want to have to bring the video and my sisters rio when i go skiing out west. i need some help on this.
