Saw them a couple of days ago at Crested Butte at a Unity demo days. One ski was wicked long, and fat....and thick...full maple core is what the rep said. The topsheet was white with "unity" letters lined up like Tetris. Looked sweet!
it seems like more snowboard companies are starting to realize that skiing is becoming bigger..lib tech started, head makes skis and snowboards...volkl makes skis and snowboards....now unity...eventually i think you might even see like burton skis....i dont know though...what do you others think
yeah man this is sweet! skiing and snowboarding are getting closer. and actually next year burton is probably gonna make some kind of ski stuff, but its probably gonna be like anon, how its different, but still kinda burton.
I actually dont mind the idea of snowboard companies making skis competition is good in any market for the consumer...and its a good way to at least getrespect from said industry...as far as burton it wont happen..they have repeatedly displayed their distaste in skiing!! No biggie though!!
burton could go with skiing too.
it will be a while down the road.
when/if skiing gets really big.
if enough kids start asking burton to make skis they might just do it.
nah man.....it is alot sooner then you think. Look at it this way....did you see how before quicksilver bought out Rossingnol all the athletes moved places, and some producted moved around....that is how it starts.
Look at burton.... they have skiers riding for Anon, and Red.... then people will move towards their outerwear ( i.e. Analog, Ronin) then from there they will make skis(probably all in the works already).....or buy a ski company. I could burton buying out Line, buisiness wise they are not doing soo well.
Burton has test marketed both skis and ski boots in the past, the boots were actualy pretty nice.Occasionaly you can find them on ebay. With jake burton at the hull though they won't be making skis mass market, not under the burton brand anyway.
^ those are for slappin skins on ans acending only the gnar gnar of peaks for only the lightest pow, and to be used by only the coolest of snowboarders.
hahaha, yeah for shure^. head and volkl are both old ass companies that have been in the ski game forever. i dont see how you would bring them up. at least a company like salomon, which only ben around about 15 years or so, but Head and Volkl?! those are old brands.
and no, burton is in no way core. burton is one of the biggest corportations in the wintersports market, and everything they do is for money. if they say they wont make skis, its cause they want to sell more snowboards. when there is enough money to be made in skiing, they will make them. trust me. and besides that, most of burtons stuff sucks. i wouldnt ride burton skis. companys like lib tech and unity are Core, and they are the ones who are in tune enough with whats goin on to realize that skis are the next big thing. these companys are super chill, and all about progression. the lib tech skis look completely rediculous.
Burton will flatout not make skis under the burton name, ever.
If you have ever seen on of their ads you know how their entire marketing capaign is setup, around snowboarding as a core company. In the eyes of many they aren't a core company anymore, but they are the ones that started all the core company business in the first place.
They are VERY careful to keep burton seperate from analog, seperate from anon, seperate from red. If they were to make skis, they would also be very careful to keep them seperate from the figurehead burton identy, but close to the coorporation as a whole.
And yes you are right, they do everything they can to be profitable. You would too. Burton produces a very high quality product for the price, and continue to revolutionize their sport with money they pump into it, and R&D within each of their segments. I think we would be very fortunate as skiers if a company like Armada possesed the power that burton currently does.
ugh, last time i checked, salomon started making skis around 1980. they might have been around in other markets. correct me if im wrong, but im pretty shure about that. and no. burtons stuff sucks. they only thing Burton makes that any good are thier boards. at least there is alot of technolgy in them. however, thier bindings suck, as do thier stupid ass insert patterns. not only do they not make sense, but it forces compatibilty issues. yes, thier sub divisions make some nice stuff. but most of those companies arnt run by burton, just owned. and no, i do believe burton will make skis, wheter under the burton name or some other logo, burton will be the ones making the skis and the money, along side thier snowboards.
oh yeah, those burton ski boots you saw on ebay, were hard shell snowboard boots for alpine snowboards. they mount to the board just like snowblade bindings, so they could technically be used in skis, but thats what those were.
Pretty much everything you said here is wrong, except the insert thing by burton,
which I agree is stupid.
First salomon has been around since 1947, they have been around skiing since 1947. Even just by looking at the salomon site you can see that.
Burton makes good bindings depending what you like, some people like the toecap strap...some don't. What they are doing is giving people choice. What you're saying here would mean that you wouldn't ride a line ski, based on the fact that they made a shitty binding. Line is still viewed as core, why is burton any different in you're eyes if all their stuff is high quality with the exception of their bindings and the tech around them.
Third, the burton boots i have seen are some of the hardshell snowboarding boots( which are just rebadged raichle boots). And there are also a few flexon mold burton boots floating around(also rebaged for burton, by raichle).
Don't bother trying to correct me ever again because chances are you will be the one that is wrong, again.
the burton name may stay core to snowboarding.. but they have a ton of sister companies for everything else neutral to skiin and snowboarding.. anon.. red... which both sponsor skiers.
they will make skis and it will be under burton they will just make a name up to promote it that way as to not tarnish the burton name if it flops..
its only a matter of time before burton gets their dick into skiing.im sure it will be under some alias that they will have huge amount of stock in. anon is only a start.
