so i got my skis this past week, and was able to mount them up yesterday morning. first, ill give ya some specs on myself, and my setup.
i am about 5'9", and about 165.
last season i rode 177 STLs.
the skis are mounted with non-lifted p12s, at 2cm back from center. they are set up for park, with detuened edges under foot and at the tips. another nice thing, is they have a solid clear base this year, vs last years die cut one. while i had zero problems with mine, some people lost chunks of the base.
ok, well, last year, i loved my stls, but i thought they were just too damn sketchy, ESPECIALLY near the end of the season when they really started to break in. i was skeptical about replacing them with the same ski, so i decided to go with the 183, cause its stiffer than the the 177s. they also stiffened up the skis throughout the lineup. let me tell you, HUGE improvement in the ski. its still super butterable, but the added stiffness really helps with popping off jumps and sticking landings. with last years, it was pretty easy to wash out if you didnt dial the landing. this years skis are much more solid.
as for skiing, the added stiffness really helps the ski. now granted, my skis are pretty detuned, but the ski keeps the edges planted MUCH better than last years (which were just too easy to overpower). the sidecut on these is 22 m, so there arnt gonna be any super tight turns, but they do hold a good edge. if you had these mounted at 4-6 back, they would make a great all mountain ski, especially for someone a little lighter.
like always they are especially light, and very flickable. im sooo much happier with the 183s than i was with 177s. it is a much nicer ski. so over all, 4frnt still maintained all the jibbin finesse of last years ski, plus a ton more all mountain capability. i love um!
