Ottawa Sens Financial Woes

How can a no. 1 team's future be in such jeopardy. The Sens have been among the most consistent teams for the last 6 years and currently they are statistically THE best team in the league. I think (or maybe just want) that this is a time that the NHL needs to step in and do what they can to make sure that Canada does not lose another team, especially a good team.

there has to be some serious mismanagement there to have that much of a debt, regardless of the exchange woes.

The government should have given them tax breaks when they where talking about it,

but if management put there money into the team and not hookers....

Matt, it's 'cause the Sens have been having finacial problems since their very first day in the NHL. The current debt is what has been accumulated over the past 10 years.
I do believe, however that their marketing has been very poor. I don't think that any Canadian hockey fan wants to see the country lose another team, and that is why I think that the Sens should rally the entire country behind them, not just the city of Ottawa.

If this wasnt hockey, it would be great if they missed payroll. Imagine if this happened in the NBA, all the 19 and 20 year olds that make more money then we do our whole life in a week, would cry and not be able to buy 50 hookers every night.

I believe that the average yearly income of a NHL player is about $600,000 American. That is a fuck load of money. Completely ridiculous, no wonder the NHL is in such a mess.

No way Dan. I think the average hockey players salary is around $1.6M USD / year. $600k is like the minimum salary a player can make.
