not only are ski resorts hiking up the price to get a lift ticket to pay for their fancy shmancy coffee houses at the bottom.. but ski shops are charging $$$$$ for mounting skis. In my area (NY) they charge upwards of 50-60dollars with a 3day turn around time.. thats crazy. it should be on the spot mount for 30bucks.. why the hell is it so damn expensive to put 8holes in a ski and drop the screws in. i dont care that the ski tech tests cost like 100bucks per compnay.. in the whole season you make way more than that just off of tunes to cover the cost.. its just insane.. any thoughts?
yea they definitely overcharge for that shit. As long as you have a template, you can mount bindings yourself. the test release is such bullshit. i talked to a shop tech who basically said as long as the din is right and the heelpice is adjusted correctly its fine.
My friend just took his skis to get waxed sharpened and bindings adjusted at our local shop and it came out to be over $50 (US) and about a week turnaround. Fucking ridiculous.
Sharpening, depending on the type... ~15 bucks, waxing (if it is done by hand) ~20 bucks, if he had any base repairs ~5 bucks, testing bindings ~ 15 bucks.
There, thats 55 bucks, plus tax and whatnot.. not too bad.
I used to be a certified binding tech, the thing is that when dealing with bindings is it is one of the bigger liabilities that the shop would have to deal with. So the extra costs above labor goes to insurance.
at ken jones in nashua nh i went in at like 8pm. bought chronics, they mounted them on the spot and i took them home that night. I suggest getting skis there.
man ive gottne mine mounted for free, and for only 15 and another time it was 25, so all in all i guess ive had it pretty good, plus i do my own hotwaxing, and i gcan get a basic tuneup for free, cause i work at my local hill.
