yeah thats sweet! even though burton is kinda gay for a snowboard company, its the biggest. they already sponsor shiller for anon, and i think red? i wouldnt be suprised.
i just dont know what they would make, skis? if this is true its gonna get skiing alot more respect.
thats cool, but id still rather support a company like orage or siver that makes sick stuff and helped the sport grow to what it is today. have no illusions about burton, if they market to skiers it will only be because they have figured out it's profitable to do so.
yeah its only gonna be a financial decision to get into the ski market for burton - and agreed that i'd feel heaps better supporting smaller core companies like ninthward, liberty, orage, siver etc - BUT if burton get into this market, newschool skiing will get sooo much more publicity through burton's marketing and we'd get a shitload more recognition and respect..
on that note...doubt it will happen, but if it does i'd be happy as larry
Dudes, burton is such a good company. They make really quality stuff. It would suck for companies like Orage because they would really undercut them in price, but hell what can you do. I'll be honost I can't afford $250 for an orage jacket (and that the lower end). I mean, but hell I know that at least 20% of the guys on here have at least one thing made by burton. I think they realized that a lot of skiers wear their stuff, so they have a decent market. I wish I could support companies like orage and DNA but i just don't have the money. And I'm sorry, but siver just sucks. Looks good, functions terrible.
i gotta say i got 2 pairs of burton ronin pants and a sessions jacket - predominantly snowboarding companies...it would be great to be able to rep core skiing companies, but if they still have the quality, branding and at a price to match???
yah, Burton is dope because it's so high quality, but you have to pay good for that. My AK jacket I'm getting from the rep is still going to cost me like $150, which is below half retail.
i guess this would be cool. kinda annoys me that burton is starting to see how freeskiing is spreading and now is beginning to think about supporting us. at the same time they would be probably the largest company to support freeskiing and could do a lot to help us. i guess i have mixed feelings.
Burton has been talking about this for years. i really think they are just going to market clothing and apparel to skiing. No word yet as to if they will make skis.
and burton may have sold out but they are the most recognized winter sport company on the face of the planet.. you cant walk into and shop and not see burton.. hell. you can even buy burton at tjmaxx. im glad they are jumpin on skiing... they know where winter sports is headed.. why not jump on it. i buy burton shit for skiing anyways.. real comfortable and not as damn expensive as armada or siver
yah burton makes some nice shit. if they make skis then skiing will explode and tons of people who used to snowboard will start skiing, it might overpopulate our sport, cuz as it is now freeskiing is pretty exclusive
yep, I have burton pants, and last year I had a burton jacket now I have bonfire, but I defintaely cant afford 250 bills so the skiing comunity will deffinately benefit from burton.
Burton itself would definitely not be making the skis if they were to go ahead and do so. It would be a new company, just like Anon or Red, or Analog. Of course, everyone would know it was Burton, but at the same time it would keep (or try to keep) the reputation intact.
I don't know what my feelings are on this. I mean, I love their outerwear, and their gloves, and Anon make sweet goggles, but unless they are going to build a team and be committed to it, I don't want another company coming in just to cash in. I'd rather give my money to Armada or k2.
id still rather buy orage stuff...if i had the money. Unfortunately, unless burton hypes skiing as "cool" then it'll just be us taking shit from snowboarders. I still think this is bs anyway
yeah i had a long talk with jake burton and he see's the plus in opening up to the freeskiing community. he's a real cool guy. embraces change for sure. it's a pretty solid marketing ploy at this point.
I'm not sure what "making stuff for skiing" means. Are they going to build skis, or are they going to start sponsoring skiers, and market their clothes to them.
