Ok, i'm lazy, and have strep throat, so i dont feel like looking, but all i want to do is ski right now. Currently, i'm wearing some old Lange boots that are 313mm in sole length. Size 27.5. My question is if I get a new boot with a different sole length, do I have to get my p12's re-mounted, or can I adjust them somehow? thanks.
you can adjust the heel back and forth a lot further than 5mm, probably two sizes, I just went from an 11 year old 355 mm boot to a brand new 328 mm without a problem it moved the heels up via the screw in back about 1.5 cm as it appears.
p12's have the screw on the very back. you should just be able to put the new boot on the bind and screw back or forth depending on if the boot is smaller or bigger till the boot fits in the binding. Just make sure the screw on the heel peice is flush with the plastic. when you step the boot into the binding and the screw is burrowed into the heelpeice or sticking out the binding is either too tight or too loose and your din doesnt work properly.
There is an indicator on the side of the heel piece that should be withing a certain range. If after you adjust the forward pressure, should the indicator be outside that range, you should get it remounted. On the P12, there should be a line on the side of the housing that should be in the area of the orange plastic shock absorber (the shim that sits between your ski and the binding).
The reason you have to have it within this range is because the worm screw that you use to adjust forward pressure may not be fully engaged on to the plate, which may result in binding damage.
