Their is a new christian cult called Ride for Christ for anyone who wants to interact with other christians. You are more than welcome to join if your not christian and are curious about what christianity is all about. If you want in just send me a meessage and ill invite you. Thanks
so you generalize that all christians are posers? some people take their faith more seriously than others, there's nothing really wrong with that, it's all a matter of personal conviction.
the amount of ignorant replies is slightly disturbing. i realize some of it is in good humor, but i begin to wonder sometimes...
anyways, i encourage you guys to find out what christianity is all about, instead of believing popular misconceptions. the case for christ by lee strobel is a good read if you're curious.
nope i didnt say all did I, i said alot of the ones i know. Im sure alot of them are great people but the kid up above is right, he doesnt say anythign about my beliefs so i apologize and wont say anything about yours anymore. my bad.
If jesus was a skier, he would've found a way to turn 500 inches of dirt into 500 inches of snow here on the right coast.
But I ride for myself. But This year I will also be riding in honor of CR. And just for the record, you can count my ass being out at 9 am on the slopes and not in a church listening to a priest tell me about how much of a piece of shit I am and how I need to beg God for forgiveness. I try to live a very good life. Theres nothing wrong with being spiritual, but organized religion is a one of the most distructive and hypocritical forces over the course of history.
So...the catholic church sucks. What else is new? My parents moved away...they became Catholic. Now I am considered a bastard child in the eyes of the catholic church becasue even though my parents were married when they had me, they weren't married in the catholic church. Protestant is the way to go. If you can find the right church, it isn't about fire and brimstone, it is about grace. No begging for forgiveness, only realizing that it has been there all along and all you have to do is accept it.
Actually that's what the Da Vinci code says... And even though you can be all anti-religion or as agnostic as you want (I myself can't talk), I think you should at least know the difference between the virgin Mary and Mary Magdalena. Meh.
OK...I've never read the da vinci code. I'm not raggin on christians either, I am one. But i thought mary magdalene was a woman, who used to be a whore, who jesus converted, and then sorta maybe had a thing going on with.
don't you love how everyone will suck up to you so bad now, like, damn, lat is so right! oh he's pure genious! thats right religious people deserve to die!
kinda like when you tell a joke that ive heard for what, 6 years now, and they all think you're pure genious because of it? yeah, the internet is a mystery.
i dislike baptists, they bring 3 buses to my hill and slow down the lines and always fall in the middle of the hills
and even while skiing, the girls have to wear skirts. WTF is up with that?
dude I ski everyday, I worked all summer so I could ski all winter. I only stop when the shinbang gets bad. And mebbe you are better then me, but I can prove how good I am and I doubt you would.
You people are the biggest hypocrits I know. What is it you always say about love? Losing the Hate? All we do is what we beleive in, why would you bash someone for that? If you want people to be acceptant of what you do mebbe you should try it the other way around.
And by the way not all of us thinnk Lat is all that, I think he is a jack that spends his life on the net beause he can make kids laugh at his sick jokes and his extremeness because everyone in real life would never hang with him, I know I woulnd't. This is the most pathetic display of untiy in skiiers I haev ever seen. And you guys think your hot crap? Your no different then the rest of the normal people in the world. Its Lame.
As a Christian, blasphemy is wrong. It shows absolute disrespect for God.
However, it is humorous and clever. I wasn't in anyway condemning it or Lateralis for posting it, so how does that make me a "christian bitch"? Grow up buddy.
Protestant churches aren't as bad, but still very hypocritical. Church makes people feel good. There are people who live terrible lives, but they are the same ones on sunday morning in the first pew singing their asses off. Putting on some kind of show. But when monday morning comes around, they're back to their same old shit. People where religion like it's a badge. Church is simply a crutch for the weary. I live a better life than most people I know who go to church... when my time comes and God wants to send me to hell cause I haven't been to church, so be it, he can have the rest of them. Heaven must not be all that great then.
have any of you thought about how many people religion has killed? look at all the crusades, and the spanish inquistion shit, and all the stuff way back when in the middle ages. i just saw the movie "kingdom of heaven" and i decided that something must be wrong when so many people are dying and being killed over the same basic idea (jesus and god).
Actually, regardless of any past history or sects, the basic problem with certain christians is that they base every single thing they do or think on their religious values.
However, perhaps those very same values should rather be thoroughly examined and questionned before you base everything on them. And even then, some things do not relate to skiing at all... skiing, for instance (honestly).
That's basically why a cult named "Ride for Christ" would be just plain... silly. And now I'd love a rebuttal.
First off, why is it a problem for Christians to base their lives on their religous values? And do you know why some Christians do that?
I agree with your second point, people should examine those values before basing their lives on them. I know I have, and thats why I've decided to follow them.
And the connection between God and skiing is that He calls us to live our lives for Him. Riding for Christ is just that. Not God on Sundays, where we worship him only in Church, but in our daily lives, and yes in skiing and on NS too.
Well, my comment wasn't meant to be incendiary, it's just that I don't find it commendable to relate every single thing in your life to religion values. The problem with it is that everything you do thing is controled by something else. Myself, I prefer to be more independant and I'm sure other people do to.
Although if your argument for Riding for Christ is that God created us and thus permitted us to ski, you might as well blame him for prostitution, drugs and war. My point is skiing is purely human, and I really don't see a reason for riding for Christ. Of course, you are free to do so, and if it's just a cult of very religious-orientated people that discuss skiing (or the opposite), that's just fine. It's only the riding FOR Christ that irritates me (sorry).
Last thing, however. I find it well that you examined the values but I'd be curious to know how you came to the conclusion that they were the right ones (well at least right enough to base everything in your life on).
nobody goes to hell for skipping out on church. haha, common misconception.
i skip out on church the majority of the winter to ski, because sunday is one of the only days i can take advantage of my season's pass at a mountain 2 hours away.
Yes I choose to live by a certain set of values, and they are Christian values. However, I'm not controlled by my values anymore than you are controlled by your values. Sure mine are written in a book and yours may not be, but we both still choose to adhere to certain values or disregard them.
My argument for riding for Christ wasn't that God permits us to ski. It was instead that skiing for Christ is one small part of living for Christ. As Christians, we are called to live for Christ, to make him the focus of our lives. That doesn't mean we sit in church all the time, instead we worship God throughout the day, everyday.
Just to clarify for people, worship does not mean bowing, praying or singing. They are only a small part of it. Worshipping God means living our lives according to how he wants us to live them. How we approach our jobs, how we deal with people, and how we conduct ourselves on the ski hill. That is living for Christ, and when skiing, that is riding for Christ.
I don't know if the explanation is clear or not, hopefully you understand a little better what riding for Christ means.
so i can live 6 days of the week however i want and sin and do all sorts of shit, but because i go to church on sunday it makes it all okay? hahaha, that's such bullshit. i don't need church or some fucking priest to tell me how to live my life or tell me that i'm 'forgiven' for my sins just because i admit them. if you're a true christian, or in fact religious in any way, you'll live your life so that you have no need to go to church and admit all the bad shit you've done.
ask a priest..
"do i have to be in church to pray?"
P: "no, you can pray anywhere and god will hear your prayers"
"so then why the fuck is it drilled into my head that unless i go to church every sunday i will not be able to pray and god will punish me and i will go to hell?"
again, as someone else said... there's too much hypocracy in religion. shit just doesn't add up.
Nobody has ever told me that if I miss Church I'm going to hell. Church is a place to learn, and a place for fellowship. It in no way guarantees salvation. Its unfortunate that you had those experiences, you obviously met some hard headed people.
No one can live without sinning, it is our human nature. But the key point point here is that nobody can live like that. Thats why christianity exists.
Going to church on Sunday doesn't forgive sins. Jesus forgives sins, and I find it incredible that I can be forgiven for all the stupid things I do by just asking.
Theres too much hypocracy in religion? No I think theres to much hypocracy in people in general.
Ok, now I have a better understanding what you meant by riding for Christ, which doesn't mean I still find it wrong. Is there hope for my soul?
Making Christ the focus of your lives seems a little harsh. Some aspects of christianity are great, yes (i.e charity didn't even exist before Jesus), but to the point of making Christ the FOCUS of your lives?
Just ask yourself... are Christian values the right ones because Jesus respected them, or did Jesus respect them because they were the right ones?
And before you condemn me to eternal damnation and hellfire, I'm not atheist, it's just that, well, why would Christianity definetely be the best religion?
I think the 18th century philosophers had it best: they wanted a "cult to the supreme being". That is they accepted that there was a God, but they had no idea who had it right, so they simply wanted to revere him. No Church, no prayer, just... respect.
Its commitment, people dedicate their lives to all sorts of things, skiing, money, people ect. So what is so different about commiting ones life to Christ? I still ski, I still do lots of the things I did before I was a Christian, but from a different perspective. My priorities changed.
And I'm not the one to do the condemning, my only interst is sharing, not forcing, my beliefs with the world in the hopes it will accept what I believe to wholly true.
i don't think that is what is meant. i think it means we should be righteous on the slopes. no flipping people off, no insulting someones style, being chill and relaxed with everyone, be respectful, etc...
basically, set an example. that has nothing much to do with being christian per se, but mainly that we can hold ourselves accountable for swearing, and basically being unchristian and not representing what we stand for.
not like we're gonna be preaching on the slopes, just act as we believe we should according to the person of Jesus Christ.
ha i like how christian is used buy chrisitans for doing whats right ex- be chrisitan like, which really means "we are the only good religion and all other ones suck
