Fat East Coast Ski

Im looking for a Fat east cost ski for mainly east coast backcountry, trees, and for the times i go out west. I only do a few groomers to warm up then venture off into the backcountry and trees looking for cliffs and pow. Sometimes i go into the park and go for some bump runs.I make occasional trips up to Jay and Stowe and a trip of to Utah for a week and possible another trip to Crested Butte or Jackson Hole. I ski 30% pow, 30% trees, 10% groomed, 5% bumps, 20% backcountry, and 5 % park. I want a ski around or over a 90mm waist. I'm also 5'7-8, 130lbs and an advanced/ expert, very agressive skier.

Volkl Mantra 177cm or 170 cm.
Volkl Gotama 176 cm
Armada ARV 175cm
Seth Vicious 169cm
Salomon Gun 175 cm
Rossi Scratch BC 171cm

I'm leaning towards one of the volkls or the armada
any other reccomendations?

Check out the Freeskier review of the Fischer Atua. Supposed to be one of the best skis on the mkt this year. Sounds like what ur looking for.

weird.. you remind me of me.. east coast, hobbies, ski %'s, hmmm...
Anyway I say Vicious, but in 179 for your size. I rode them lately and most others on your list and since you do what I do mainly, I beleive you can't get a better ski for your needs.

Vicious or Scratch BC. I'd scratch the Gotamas off your list if you're skiing the east coast, that ski is huge and would be wasted if you aren't using it on a huge mountain.

Out of your list i would be picking the Seths, ARVs, Manturas. They all seem like theyd do what u want. Do not get Godamas they do not carve. and are extremly stiff so there not great unless you ski lots of steeps really fast. I have no real experence with the Scracth BCs but are fairly similar to the ARVs. Well thats my 2cents worth. O and im gettin ARVs. Nick

Dude, I ski 184 Mantras everyday in Colorado. The Mantras are stiffer than the Goths. He should probably get the Karmas instead of the Mantras, because at his weight the Mantras would be a lot of work. They carve, but only because I weigh 175 and ski fast. The Karmas are stiff too (not as stiff as Mantras), but I think they would be great for east coast skiing.

Dude the gots arnt THAT stiff. yes there alot stiffer than the others on his list like Seths and ARV's but its not extremely stiff. But seems inadequate for what you want to use it for.

I'm riding Elizabeths in the E.C. I rode it for the first time today, they were great but did take a bit getting used to but after that it was all gravy. These skis are lighter than you expect and they are soft flex. I had last years 182 BCs mounted and they were way heavier than the elizabeths. My cuzin has last years regular scratch in 168 and they were similar weight. They are also softer than the BC, but its very symmetric. There are lotta things that I thought bout these skis after I rode them today, but I can't remember. Ask if you wanna know something.

When i was skiing the Godamas i just thought they didnt have a great feel to em they floated well but they didnt have anything else going for them in my opinon. Nick

for an east coast back country ski, haveing something fat, but still have alot of shape to it will be better, then a true big powder ski with like a 25m turning radius.

I would get the scratch BC's. I would also reccomend getting or looking at a ski magazine's gear guide reviews. Also the BC was rated one of the best skis in the test and I think it was rated higher than any one on your list.

I just got 4frnt MSPs and i love them. they charge hard on everything, despite some instability at high speeds and on ice (what fat ski wouldn't wiggle at speed). They're a super fun ski with a lot of pop. Great for crud, i haven't tried em in deep powder, but with a 97 mm waist i assume they'd float.
