Just go demo the shit.
Then you'll know for sure if the skis you want to buy are the right kind/size/shape/style/color/length/width/etc...
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't buy a car w/o taking it for a spin, so why drop hundreds of $$ on skis you've never even tried?
So that's my one brilliant thought for the year. Now that I've solved all of your problems I'm going to go back to being a slobbering idiot for a while.

my shop has like one pair of demos this year. its not like they are gonna let ppl demo every ski, as they will get wear and tear which ends up with the shop loosing money.

I've never heard of, seen, or read about a shop that won't let you demo skis. If they won't let you demo then u need to find a new shop.

I've seriously never had this problem. I always demo skis in December, and I'm always able to demo the ski I want in the size I want. If your somewhere that has skiing then you should be somewhere that has ski shops with more than one pair of skis.

The companies that I want to demo aren't sold or demoable around here. Answer that.

If that's your situation then I guess it is what it is. Not much choice.
But outside of you it seems like there are a ton of people on this board who want skis for places like CO, UT, CA, etc... and I know for a fact that all of these places have ass loads of ski shops that demo tons of gear. In fact if a shop ever told me I couldn't demo skis I wanted to buy I would walk out. Every time I've ever bought skis the shop has recommended 2-3 options to demo and then I made my choice based on that. Then they give you a discount on the skis based on the money you spent to demo them. It's just standard practice. I'm really not making this shit up. In fact if you demo at a good resort shop (like the shops at Alta) then you can pay one price (usually between $25 and $45) and demo as many skis as you want for the day. I've gone up there and tried 4-5 different skis in one day.
If ppl just don't want to demo then that's fine, I got no prob w/it. The only reason I started the thread is because it seems like there are a whole lot of ppl on this board who are really confused about what skis to buy, so I thought to myself "Hmmm, maybe they just don't know you can actually try before you buy" and I thought if they demo'd a few pairs they'd be a lot happier w/the money they spend. I def think people should use places like this to get info and opinions. But in the end you gotta buy the ski that works for you.
I'm out, gotta ski tomorrow.

lots of people dont live within easy reach of a good ski shop, that stocks lots of brands & styles. most shops i have access to only shop say 2 or 3 brands, and wouldnt have the skis i want, esp at the size i want available to demo, mainly because they only ordered say, 2 pairs in that size total.
