No, not ice rails.
PVC or metal. Do they severly scratch up the bases or edges? Anything noticeable?

PVC is not that bad on the edges, but metal dulls your edges out pretty bad ass
the good thing about edges is you can always resharpen them

If you are a good skier who is used to performance, you will lose ALL capabilities to ski on ice.
Powder, soft and courderoy are fine, but say goodbye to ice.
I've wiped out on green runs because I hit an ice patch and there's NO edges left.
Especially if you have a racing background and you're used to riding your edges.

it matters if your a good skier, if your good you can ski with any kind of ski and jib with any,
but if you mess you on pvc nothing should happen but metal can ripe an edge out

On PVC u do more harm to the rail than ure egdes...a lot of time if u aren't flat u'll shred the plastic and wipe out (I know)

if your edges get rounded just sharpen them like once a week if you want performance on other parts of the mountain.

I don't think we're talking about the same kind of ice here.
Sure 'if you're a good skier, any ski...' but seriously... If you do a LOT of rails, the damage is unrepairable, and will SERIOUSLY affect your edging abilities. ONly on ice though.
Skibum: that only works if you don't do a lot of rails.

This is like the 10th time somebody has asked this...
it all depends how good you are and how much you jib. A little isn't bad but for street jibbing you should get a new pair of skis

Metal rails will make your edges nice and wavy, but it really doesn't effect your skiing, unless you plan on like racing the next day. And you can get them fixed at the end of the year or when ever if they get too bad.

Yeah, but if you have messed up edges, your ski won't hold as well. It might slide out on icec. But it really isn't that bad. it's not gonna totally destroy your edges or anything. Especially if you only do rails every so often. But if you are a rail'a'holic, then ya might wana be careful.
