I'm having some boot troubles.

For some reason, my left boot is always tighter then my right boot. I can set the buckles up on both boots to the farthest notches,(make them as tight as they can go) but the left boot is always tighter then the right, considerably tighter. BTW, all of the buckles are set up the same on both boots so that isnt an issue. When I lean forward in my boots the velcro strap on my right boot comes undone but the velcro is still in good condition. I have Rosi Soft3 boots. They are either 04/05 or 03/04 model boots I forget which year sorry. Also, I was getting frusterated with this boot situation today and while I was inspecting the boots I noticed that the top buckle on the left boot(the boot that was fine to begin with) was caught underneath the liner of the boot. So I jerked the buckle out of there like a douche instead of being careful and now the buckle wont snap shut. It now has a hell of a lot of resistance and wont even close properly. How do I fix these two problems? Please... I need help. Thanks.

Your boots are too big - the buckles shouldn't be able to tighten past half the track. The soft boots aren't great either. Go to a good bootfitter and they'll sort you out in something new that will work.

The large majority of people have one foot bigger then the other. Now for most people its justa matter of half a size difference, if even that much. There are those strange people who have a full size or size and a half difference. But ya, to solve your problem simply take them in to a bootfitter, you will be amazed at what they can do.

Ok. I just measured my feet and they are symetrical. I wasnt as descriptive in my first post as I should have been. Actually, what I ment by one boot being bigger then the other was that the right boot does not clamp around my leg as well as the left boot does even when both straps are done up to the farthest notches. I should take them to a bootfitter you say? What would they do to help me, technically?

A boot fitter would be able to solve most of these issues for you or at least mitigate them to some extent. If one boot is tighter than the other and the buckles are set the same, it could be any number of things...i'd try an aftermarket footbed to hold your foot in place to and give u a little more room for the toes.
Also, you could toss a heel lift in your foot that is slightly tighter.....that might give you a little more room as well.
It's all kinda moot to talk about here....go to a boot fitter and let them explore it with you. Gaurantee they can come up with something to help you out.

the thing is that your boots have a sort of micro macro adjustment on them (this where you can spin the part of the buckle that catches on the teeth and will extend or retract into the pat that doesnt spin). they are probably diiferent on each boot (some buckles are farther out/in). so i would rotate them in and out on both boots until they are even and then rotate them unti they are fit to what you want. this should be how to fix your problem. peace.

OMFG MOTHERFUCKER!!! You knew just what to do! I tried that and it worked perfectly! I didn't know about those adjustments until now. Thank you so much.

This is just a minor question that doesnt really have that much to do with the thread topic but ill ask anyway. When your not wearing your boots, should you do up the buckles or just leave them un-done, and why? Also, when your putting on a ski boot, do you do up the bottom buckle first and work your way to the top, or the other way around? Sorry im a total noob. One more thing. If I need to replace a buckle for my boots, do I need to get a buckle from the same model of boots or can I just get the shop to strap on any buckle?

i never buckle up symetrical so, i just tighten til both my feet feel pretty even fitted in the boots, which means i have different sized feet, or the something is unsymertrical at least.. idk. maby my right foot has more muscles?

i sprained my ankle really bad like a year ago and i have 2 wear one boot a little looser so if u had a foot injury there might be some permanate swelling

yeah i think my leftleg is thinner cuz of kneeinjury. but that only counts for the upper part of my boot. i think from my ankles and out im pretty symertrical.

Buckle your boots when you're not wearing them or else they lose their shape. For buckling, I was taught bottom to top (I'm a bootfitter), but a lot of people say buckle the 2nd top one first because that's the one that pulls your heel back. When replacing a buckle, one from the correct model is best, and most good shops should be able to get you the right buckle for any boot from the last two or three years. Otherwise, a different one might work or else they can replace both the buckle and the teeth.

you should buckle them up. the plastic on the boot is flexible and will hold to the shape that it is kept in, so, if you were to leave them un buckled, they would sorta mold to that position and therefore make it harder to buckle them down. also, i see a lot of pics on this site with peoples boot straps un done, this isnt good store them in your closet as if they were on you feet (though it is ok to leave them open to dry out if they get sweaty).
The best way to buckle up you boots is (this is my own opinoin) to first do the second one up and do that 'till it is pretty tight but not all the way. then i go for the next one up and only start to clamp it. then i do the bottom one really tight (as far as it will go). the i go back to the top and get thos 2 to where i want and then finish the second one up till it is nice and snug. then, i do the power strap. this needs to be as tight as possible. and when you pull it tight, the top buckle might lossen and youll have to re-tighten it. now make any other adjusments and your good to go. just make jure you repaet on the next boot or you will be SOL.
and yeah, your gonna need to replace the buckle for you boot with another one either off the same boot or a boot off the same line. this way youll be sure that they willl match up and you wont have to worry about any problems down the line. dont just put on any buckle, it wont worl out!
peace.

Never crank the two bottom buckles right down. Since all the major blood arteries in your foot run along the top, all your doing when you crank them down is cutting the blood flow to your foot. When you cut blood flow to your foot, your foot gets cold. The bottom two buckles dont affect the fit of the boot, and if you need to crank the buckles right down then the boot doesnt fit to start. All thos bottom two buckles do is keep the flap closed so snow and moisture don't get in the boot. There is no correct order in which the buckles need to be done up.

thats why i said "in my own opinoin". and thats how i role, i like them tight and it helps my skiing and my feet are always warm. and the second one up definetly affects how you ski! its what helps hold your ankle in place. trust me. and the bottom one keeps the front of you foot right in place. besides, i said tighten to where it feels comfortable.

I haven't seen you foot or boot, but I would wager a guess that your boot is to wide for your foot. The boot shouldn't feel sloppy when those buckles aren't done up. In order to hold your foot in place and keep the boot secure on your foot, it is only the top two buckles that keep it secure. Thats not an opinion its a fact. Definately tighten the boot to where it feels comfortable but also when you buy a boot just remember to buy a boot that fits properly.

my boot does fit my feet snuggly, i just like them to be really held down. my boots arent sloppy. and since i have kinda narrow foot, there is a little bit more room for lateral movement. besides, salomons 3D buckle is proof that those buckles do help keep your foot in place (i have salomon 1080).

Ok. Since I will most likely need to buy a new pair of boots, what boots do you guys recomend for me? I want a nice park boot. How is the 1080 foil? What do you look for when you buy a boot anyway?

Go to a good boot fitter. There is absolutely no use in asking for boot advice online.
