what you non religious people who still insist that youre strongly 'moral' people, who can subsist outside the bounds of an oh-so-controlling religious framework in your lives are missing, is that the entire context of western 'morality' is essentially judeo christian. just like a middle eastern 'morality' is in the context of an Isalmic morlity based on sheria. you cant escape it, and it would be best to acknowledge that whether you subscribe to any organized religion, your code of ethics, is essentially Christian. if youre so independant of religion, why are you still allowing yourselves to be bound by the repressive shackles of morality? if youre as independant as many of you may claim to be, then lets hear some real independant ideas.
you think that because you smoke some weed every now and then, and because youre so intellectually liberated that you 'know' that religion is a crock, and that general morality debates in society are only held back by 'right wing fanantics' (abortion, capital punishment, gay marrige, etc) that youre not abiding by the basic precepts of a relgion?
you undertand futher, of course, that your vehement disdain for 'organized religion' and your ademant following of whatever precepts guide your life is just as binding as any given religion is? youre really not any more free, in any aspect of life. there will be choices that you can make that will go with or against your belief system, whether its one that is within the confines of a church, or one thats within the confines of your own brain. either way, youre confined. you just might not know it.
this isnt directed at any one person in particular, but at all people who make claims of repression and inequality in relgion, and to people who think that religion is some kind of crutch for the intellectually weak minded. which is a pile of crap. to be blunt. religion is no more a crutch that the lack of religion. youre still dependant on something.
if youre going to try and make an argument that religios ideals and morals are for those who cannot back up their ideals with common sense or some other kind of philosophical thought, then you probably ought to check yourself. if youre going to put yourself above the myriads of religios philosophers, and numerous scientists who all subscribe to a religion, then youre certainly thinking a bit too much of yourself. intellectual capacity has nothing to do with it. when you can put forth philosophical works that best st. thomas aquinas, then maybe well talk.
untill then, haters, youre no better, nor any worse than any religious person. if you cant see that, then maybe youre not the enlightened, open minded person you think you are.
