I know the words "East Coast" (yes i am aware that east coast is actually two words) and "backcountry" really dont go together, but I've heard that place next to Cannon and Stowe have some decent places to go. Does anyone else have any backcountry places they'd like to share?
read the article in freeskier or powder (not sure) about lost ski areas of the east. there is one next to cannon that you can hike to. also check out http://www.nelsap.org/ to find lost ski areas.
sugarbush and stowe have quite a bit, but I guess Mt. Washington is the actual backcountry for the east coast. I would not do any of the stuff at any of these mountains without a local or you will become very lost
