Oh yeah, now you are playing the "look at me, I'm a pro skier" card. I called you out before because of that reason, but now you made it explicit that you feel you can say more, and that your opinion should be that much more valued because of your position.

Like I already said, stick to actual skiing.

No you didnt say anything about my skiing, you just implied it and are now backpedalling. I yet again will call you an "internet hypocrite." For one, its quite apparent that you do care, becuase you keep bringing up the fact that I do one footers (which is only vaguely true,) and two, your advice was something along the lines of "ski to ski" and don't care about what others think, was it not? Yet now you are talking about how you went somewhere in skiing, and that what you said was so-called "advice." Your sarcasm doesn't even need its own font.

Also, since you have twice now, directly avoided my question, I'm going to read between the lines and draw my own conclusion. Furthermore, what I'm really saying is that just because you are a damn good skier (no problem admitting that) doesn't allow you to think that your opinions are necessarily worth that much more. Especially true, when they are blatantly contradicting.

That being said, this has nothing to do with you not using poles. You have clearly shown with your caliber of skiing that it is not something that skiers actually need and this is to be respected. I just wanted to get that out of the way before you have 20 kids in upcoming posts trying to score brownie points with you and telling me that Andy can do whatever he wants, because in actuallity, as far as skiing goes, I don't disagree.

poles, gotta have em, just my personal preference. unless you're rocking a starter jacket and blue jeans, in which case you can't have poles, thats too much steeze for one person.

i dunno if n e 1 else has said shit bout this, but u wanna ski without poles , sweet as! but i can just imagine the carnage if this word got out, i mean, that its ok to ski without poles. i dont think n e mountain would cope. theyd def have to put handrails in the lift lines, and for those mellow runouts at the top of the chairlifts - gapper pileups madstyle! ohhh and i just realised, how are we going to carry our skis now, i luvd hanging my skis off of my poles and carrying them in 1 hand. super gangsta

Skiing -
a sport in which participants must travel on skis

Anyone has the right to to do just about anything in freeskiing. The only limitation to this I think would be ruining the jumps/landings/features. Therefore if someone wants to hit a jump with 1 ski and do a misty, no one has the right to stop them unless they are destroying something.

Unless you guys are fucking morons you've probably realized by now that style is subjective. Who's run was better at the X games between Tanner and Jon? That debate will never be settled. So the same can be said about 1 foot slides and skiing without poles. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Before you continue your endless debate of stupidity that will go nowhere, concider this: why does it matter what you think of other peoples style? If a person skis without poles the only person's style he's representing is his. He has to deal with looking steezy or like a yeti, not you.

Andy, I have nothing against you and I think you are sick and progress the sport in wonderful ways.

However, I just want to understand why you go around saying that progression is so important, but then completely denounce rails and one footers specifically.

If you think that people should ski how they want, (which I completely agree with, and support your occasional lack of poles, despite the fact that I think it looks a little strange)then how can you go around saying that rails and one footers do not belong in skiing.

If you dont like rails, or one footers thats fine, but you should still respect the fact that they are a progression of our sport. You can ski how you want, but you have to respest and encourage the development of skiing in ALL aspects, not only your preference.

Im not sure if you already feel this way, and I just misunderstood your thoughts, but I was just curious as to how you felt about this, it seems quite hypocritical to me.

Difference Between Andy Skiing Without Poles and One Footers

Andy skiing with no poles often actually looks good.

One footers, excepting those performed by Colby West, more or less never look good.

(This doesn't include 5050s, but that's a pretty staple trick by now and I don't think it's what we're talking about).

If you take the perspective "do what looks good", then it's not really hypocritical at all to criticize one and support the other.

Hope that cleared something up for you, Sim.

Well the whole idea is that most people think skiing without poles DOESN'T look good, so it comes down to, just do what you WANT, and support whatever any one wants, because it is progressing skiing. I don't see how it is not hypocritical to get mad when someone bashes riding without poles (which they think looks ugly), and then go ahead and bash on someone doing a 1 foot gring(which you think looks ugly).

Well sorry to jump back in this again, but there is a few things:

First of all aznrida, thank you very much for your ever so valued imput. Your right, I don't ski everyday. I at the moment and for the rest of this winter, don't live all that close to any real skiing, mind you I'll make a trip or two to the alps. Secondly, there was once a day when I would have had no trouble saying that my caliber of skiing was at the same level, sadly that is not so anymore. Thirdly, I'm not dissing his skiing, only his contradicting remarks.

Now AR six, thanks for trying to help, but I'd rather here it from Andy himself. Like Mikee said, what looks good is subjective. Unfortunately for Andy, he said one of the most hypocritical things I've heard pretaining to skiing, and were he not the man he is, I gaurantee you he would have got flamed way more.

Now then I read his post and was like, oh ok he is admitting it was not the smartest comment, and it is something that we all do once in a while. However, he (you) went on about how he can't be changed and how he can say "fuck you" to whoever he wants, whenever he wants. Fair enough, but if you (Andy) expect at all to have what you say taken a little more seriously, then I suggest perhaps being a little more proffesional about it. That is, unless of course you don't care because you do what the fuck you want, because clearly, you've shown that you don't care.....

Did anyone see this exact argument in Skeeze ? Skiing without poles looks like rollerblading and it takes away from the general sense of skiing ! You guys without poles are heretics ! nah whatever floats your boat but read the skeeze article ...
