Yes, the Flathead finally has a real ski shop. The White Room is committed to BC, Big Mtn, and Freestyle skiing. They are stocking Line skis and bindings, K2 Telemark, Dynastar, Lange, and Fischer. The people are chill as hell aswell. Right behind Mambo Italianos in downtown whitefish. Support the people who are filling in the hole of a good ski shop in the flathead.
fuck, i'm working at mambo, i walked by there last night, and wondered if it was a yuppie place or what, cuz it was new, and in whitefish...a valid assumption. sweet, i'll have to stop in there.
I really do not know. I will find out more and try and post a phone number. You might have to wait till next weekend though, as they arent open tomarrow and I am not driving to whitefish for a phone #.
Apperently they are also talking with salomon. It would seem logical to have armada too, as Tanner is from Kalispell, but this shop is really new, and the market here is not huge. Personally, I am thrilled to see some help in the form of a core ski shop. Means I dont have to open one.
Support what? K2? Dynastar? Lange? No thanks man, for that I can just go to Sportsman, it's 15 miles closer. Let me know when they will have some "CORE" companies.
Line skis...dynastar and lange are way better than anything that sportsman carries. So what if you live in kalispell, hit them up on your way down the mountain. Sportsman has sold out, they have no interest in any skiing that the youth is interested in. Fuck sportsman, they suck. With the exception of two people who work at the kalispell store, none of them know what the fuck they're talking about.
First of all I'm never going to buy lange, dynastar and Line Skis and saying those skis are better then anything sportsman carries is fucking retarded. Second of all, apparently White Room doesn't have any interest in what the youth is interested in... Example where is 4FRNT, Armada, Ninthward? and we can go on and on. Third of all you would have to be a complete moron to listen to anybody at sportsmans, I make descion on my own reviews and not on what people tell me.
Yay sportsman...they have cool skis. Like K2. I'm sorry but the pub enemys and the fujatives blow. I've torn my heelpiece out of 2 sets of PE's. Fuck that. When I had a pair of dynastar, they were solid, never tore out. Same with the new lines, and the special binding. Bombproof. Shop sportsman if you ski like a pussy, or want flimsy boards, because they sell weak ass shit, or stuff that is as soft as it gets. If you're skiing real lines, and also park, you need something stiff, and sportman doesn't have it. No scratch BC's the last time I was in there, and those are the only thing close to a stiff twin in that shop. Ski mountain sports would be cool if they knew anything about freeride. The shops been open literally three weeks. Do you know anything about business? Get a fucking clue, it takes time to bring all that in. They've got sick tele and freeride stuff as a start. It's one step closer to having a dope shop. You are fucking stupid.
Yeah, since fighting on the mountain is cool. Don't talk shit about the new shop until you actually go in there. You can see that they're trying to get some cool stuff going. Sportsman is losing steam. Do you remember snowfrog? That was dope, but sportsman bought them out, which is super ghey. Had they not bought them out, we'd probably have a way sick freeride shop that would of branched out from that store. You're not old enough to know that though are you?
first off, you wanna fight over ski comanies? stupid. Second you wanna fight Jake? stupid, he a fuckin brute. Thirdly, CORE skiiers are ones that live for skiing and use waht works, and aren't style whores that wear the new hot thing. Style whores. Stupid. I would rather ride a solid stiff ski made by someone that has been in the business has more omney to lay on a product and has tested results, where as ninethward and other companies usually don't even make their own skiis and secondly use cheap materials. You are stupid my friend.
personally i think its dope as hell we are getting a new shop, here are my reasons
1. Sportsmans has isnt the best because its got the same skis as everyone else, k2 and salomon oh and rossignol but no Scratch BC of FS that is just fucked, all sportsman cares about is just the fucking tourists and im friends with alot of the people who work there and yes they can be dicks
2. Their "shop" isnt the best. I took my invaders in there to get them mounted and i specifically told them about how they are perfrectly symetrical and how one ski forward and well you guys know what im talking about, I wanted one skull going forward and the other backward, so i pick them up and i notice that they are both in the back and im like are you guys morons. plus they dont know how to mount PE's the bindings are so far back, plus on my friends skis they mounted so the their is more ski in the back then the front, but the kids a doosh bag but im mean fuck
3. Im not aware of anybody in Montana carrying Line skis but i may be confused
Who said anything about fighting douchebags? I said a discussion, use your fucking heads. Jake is a brute? hahahaha fucking comedians. Core skiiers use whatever works? Thats called hippies, don't confuse the two moron. I never knocked on them for starting out a shop, good for them, we need one, but when you are going to be praising them for barely having any selection then you are an idiot. Also Armada will ride just as good or not better then all of those skis they have at that store, so don't tell me "Core" companies don't know how to make skis. You are stupid my friend.
You're the one knocking stuff. If you were up to date on ski news, you'd know that the Line product is shipping this week, so they should have a full line of..er Lines. They've got Dynastars, which are nice skis, Black Diamond, and K2. It's a start. Why shouldn't we praise them and tell people about it, you complain they don't have enough selection because they don't have libery, 4frnt, or any of those brands, but they're three weeks old. If people start going in there, and they get some business, and can make some money, they'll expand their stock of skis. You know nothing about marketing and business obviously.
I know nothing about business and marketing? hahaha please tell me then how a business such as this ski shop should run and what it's main marketing points should be so they can be competetive vs. sportsman? Let's hear it smart guy.
To be competitive against sportsman? They're doing it. They're actually a shop that carries everything sportsman doesn't. They're filling the void. They've got plans for a full freeride line, with a few different makes and models, sportsman lacks good variety. They've carried the same lame bullshit for years. They also are carrying a full tele line. Sportsmans tele equipment is sub par. They have shitty binding selections, and the bindings they do carry are shit. They fall apart and break far too easy. The White Room carries lange boots, which in 6-8 pairs, compete with all the boots sportsman carries. The only decent boot sportsman has is from the Salomon line. They carry a full line of backcountry gear: peeps, probes, shovels, head lamps, crampons, ice picks. Anything you need to ski burly shit. Sportsman does not. The prices at the WR are better on that equipment too. Their owner and shop techs know their shit, sportsman does not. They carry high quality outerwear at good prices, sportsman carries north face and arctryx as their only decent clothing for skiers. Burton is good, but it's not "core" like you want. Ripzone is like buying a coat at walmart, good luck getting two seasons out of it. Those are just a few marketing and business strategies. Basically having a better shop.
Suggesting that these people are not down with the youth is being ignorant. The two owners are really cool people, and are fully supporting freeskiing by sticking their necks out and carrying ski gear that those of us that like to launch off of stuff need.
Sportsman has dominated the local ski shop scene for many years, and Ski Mtn Sports is only an option if you are a racer or want the best groomer skis. They still carry Bogner. These guys have created a shop that is supportive of what we are doing, rather than just stocking a few token pairs of twins in the wall of shitty "all mtn" skis and then half assing what they do in the shop. The shop work at sportsman sucks unless you know them personally.
One of the guys was talking to me about possibly getting going with Sessions eventually.
If you ask why they aren't carrying 13 different ski brands, I would suggest you take a look at the actual size of the market here. At this point, they do not have a huge following as sportsman has been dominating for sooo long. As the shop grows older, they will fill the needs of the community.
well where is 4frnt armada, ninthward at sportsmans? you might as well go support a sick new ski shop because without your help im sure they will never be able to get those "core" companies that you are so into. those companies are expensive as fuck and for a new ski shop opening up, that would be tough, especially with fags like you who like to go get fucking sweet fujatives or scratch sprayers from sportsman. have you ever tried opening a ski shop and trying to compete with the one only shop in the damn town? thats what i thought. so i suggest you shut the fuck up.
Great arguement points, since I haven't tried to open a shop I should keep my mouth shut. Shows how intelligent you are. I don't support sportsmans or buy anything from it, I support d-structure.
Thank you, that is all I was asking for. Those are great points and I'm glad we can try to discuss this without too many insults. I would disagree with you on the bindings choices, Rossignol makes great bindings and the Rossi Soft3 boots are bitching too. Personal preference I guess. Regarding head lamps and ice picks, wouldn't have a fucking clue cause I'm not that kind of a skiier. You are calling North Face decent? You gotta be kidding me. People use North Face Products to climb the toughest mountains in the world and you are calling them decent. I'm only "CORE" on skis, not the clothing, don't worry I got a sessions coat in my possesion. What it all comes down to for me is them having a "CORE" ski selection, because that is all I really care about, that is one thing that we need in this valley to support the newschool movement and have kids riding on the mountain something besides K2.
David you don't need need to have 13 diffrent ski brands, but having the top let's say five brands would be nice. I'm not asking them to stock up the ass but have bigger freeride selection then they have right now. If they can afford to have all the stuff they have right now I'm sure they could throw in more cash and get a bigger selection. Cause we all know there are plenty of rich kids in this valley that would buy those skis out in no time.
Bindings are bindings. As long as you've got a high enough din, I really could care less what I ski on. The reactors make it so you don't have dead zones in your skis. I value that. Rossignol makes good bindings, I never said to the contrary. I ski rossi bindings. I will disagree with the soft boots. After you break two pairs of soft boots, why don't you tell me how good they are. The simply don't hold up. I'm skiing on the last pair they sent back to me, soft pros so that I don't break them again, and they're already getting fucked up. Softboots simply aren't for skiers who use their equipment, and use it hard. North Face is good, excellent even, but for the price, what the White Room is selling, north face gets knocked down a peg or two. Sportsmans softgoods are overpriced, simple as that. They're a tourist shop. If you want to have kids riding something other than K2, and want a core shop, you're being a hypocrite by knocking these guys. They're carrying line, the first "core" brand. And with time, they'll expand their product line. I don't see why you're having such a big problem with supporting them if you want to see a new core shop come up.
I'm not knocking these guys fully but at the same time I'm not going to be praising them fully. Once I again I don't support Sportsmans, but in order for White Room to get my full support I would like to see them have a bigger "CORE" selection of skis and soft goods. Once they do that we will be on the same page.
We are gonna keep on going in circles looks like, for the last time. I will not support the shop for shit that I don't need or will ever buy locally, when they have skis/outerwear that I am interested in I will support them. Untill then good luck to them trying to achieve that.
