They get ground down and weaker after a couple years of use. I was using mine last night and the rail cracked. one of the screws that was holding the pipe down came up and took out a piece of my edge and made the biggest hole in the ptex. There's a huge part that you can see the core. Also where it took the edge out part of the sidewall (well not really they're fujatives but I dunno what you call it on that) broke off. AHHGG

yea man, NO. pvc is the best option. you jsut didnt secure yours well enough to the wood. ALWAYS put a wooden dowel inside of the pipe. then glue the wooden dowel to the inside of the pipe. now yopu have somethin solid to screw into that wont ever crack. the top of the pvc will pron take 2-3 years to wear down assuming you use it a few times a week. when it does replace it which will take all of 1-2 hours and less then 40 bucks. most people will grad before that happens so theres no prob. think about how much edge damage a metal rail would reak after 2-3 years. ill take that blown out edge. def sucks that it happened though. i see it as a freak accident that could be prevented with some dowels. gl man.

dude thats why you dont point the nail or screw up. next time screw through the pvc and file it down, then if it breaks at least your not landing on nails or screws

your lucky you got a couple of years. i (we) made one, used it twice, and the rail shattered on the third.
just make a flat rail, like a skilly box, out of lexan or hunt around for scrap metal tubing and get a buddy with a welder or rent one

me and my friends made a shotgun rail with two round pvc pieces. we put a 2 X 4 on top of the posts to make like a woden flat rail and then screwed the pvc pieces to that FROM THE BOTTOM. even if a screw starts to back out it backs out farther from the the top, obviously the way to go

yeah when i made mine it cracked after the first session and then i never took it down and when all the snow melted that held it up it fell down and the pipe came off.....
but there really easy to fix

You can get great stuff at lowes or home depot. You could prob get it at wal mart too if ou dont mind shopping with retarded people, waiting 45 minutes to check out only to find that the cashier cant speak english.

there are three rigiditys of pvc. 20, 35, and 50. alot of people get 20 because its cheaper, but its like a dollar more for 50. just ask the home depot guy for 50 when you buy it.
only problem is, you cant make curved rails with 50 or 35.....

i like pvc as long as you replace it when it starts to get run down
plus it doesnt hurt as much if you fall on the rail like metal would

pvc works ok, (but if you have friends that come over and peel it like a banana then it doesent work so hot), but it is a lot cheaper and easier to build with than metal

thats your fault for making a shitty rail. make rails with pvc just dont like put screws in retarded places where your skis are gunna be sliding.
