so hey if anyone comes on here bored... im plannign on setting up a typically cheapskate scheister rail sessioning operation at UBC. basically... i dont think security cares, cause jibbing is common... and... double kink by the sub looks like fun and has a giant pile of snow by it to turn into a rampish device. so... im gonna go at like 11 and it looks like im getting no luv and im on my own so... come jib. i knwo some of you are nearby.
k well everyones tired and shit... including me... and im pretty sure the giant piles of snow will still be there tomorrow night so... rain check? i figure id probably be found dead on the concrete tomorrow if i went alone and shanked myself... must jib though... so ubc tomorrow jib night.
damnit! the night i leave for whis....Check the blue one by the war memorial gym. Some snowboader friends of a friend hit it up last week. Its got no kinks and is fairly long. I always thought the double kink by the sub was a super harsh kink. Anyhow, good luck, make sure you get pics.
im not gnar enough for war... and i mean the little one by the sub, not by the pool... cause those kinks do look like death... but the two on the pool and war that go down to the bus loop parking lot i could go for at some point.
SFU security are Naziesque... get ready to run in ski boots or get a ticket.. they are hella tight about people hitting the rails there. They have the best selection of ski/board/skateable rails in the lower mainland.. none of which have skate stops.. and how can they do that you ask???
Security....lots and lots of security.
However this is not to say that it can't be done.. it has many many times.. but you better have a plan and at least an idea of their patrol routes/times.
however, from experience, SFU security is a bunch of nazis, and on top of that, they recently hired ADDITIONAL security.
To make things even worse, that additional security is a private security force separate from the "normal" sfu security. If my run in with them last Thursday is any indication, they're not a very pleasant bunch of "I didn't make the football team in highschool, failed out of cop school, didn't get laid till I was 30, and am now getting back at everyone who I think has ever screwed me out of life" assholes.
That being said, if you know where you're going, your chances of getting busted are low. If you're stupid enough to hit the wood dubkink by the gym in daylight, you're gonna get caught.
And calling it an "ethnographic research study involving a topic that hasn't ever been covered by other academic research" doesn't get you "one more try". It gets you confused looks and a sob story about how the security guard wasted "$24 000 going to animation school" and then about how he "used to make $24/hr working in a mill, and now i do this...".
I live at SFU if anyone ever wants to come do rails send me an email I'll come out. Can't ski this winter because of a recent ACL surgery but I'm happy to come out and help set up, take pics/video, run away from security (provide hide-out). I also know the way around through the bushes to avoid parading around in front of security.
i saw some skiers setting up the rail by war memorial like a week ago. unfortunatly i had to get to pita pit before it closed so i couldnt watch. ill hit that rail by the sub w/ you next term when i have my urban skis out here tho.
behind thunderbird stadium theres a rail set up with a jump built on and stuff. Its kinda longer than i thought. Anyways its on that hill right where they dump the hockey ice snow. Wonder how long before some ubc thugs tear it down.
This rail is south of the thunderbird hockey rink like 20 feet from the back door. I am not out at ubc today, so they mighta taken it down tonite, but yesterday there was a jump on with like a 25 ft flatbar...maybe only 20ft...anyways all it needed was a little snow on the landing (which there is plenty of nearby). Looked flawless for learning 270's on. Ohhhhhh you're talking about whistler, I am talking about UBC in vancouver. Sorry dude. Anyways someone hit this thing it looks kinda cool, my skis are up in whistler.
oh when i read "winter sports center" i thought you might be talking about meadow park sports center....annnnyyyhow, let me know if you hit up the thunderbird rail.
practice fields side....on that little hill between the hockey rinks and the fields. Is it still there? I will be back out there today and let you know if its still kickin around. If it is I am definilty bringing my skis back from whis this w/e
yeah my friend and i set up the one behind the ice rink....we just found it leaning against the outside of the building, hauled it around back, got a shovel, dug it like a foot into the grass so its freestanding, and sessioned it for a while...we also found that dropin leading up to a dumpster, so the whole setup is pretty sick....if we get some more snow or something we should get a big session going down there
