As of friday they had 12 rail/box/jibs in place, 10ft, 20ft, and 45ft jumps and the hip. (All very well maintained) Better then anything else I've seen in Ottawa area so far.
i was there tonight, and ya it is preety sick, the stall thing is preety fun. The vertical tube thing would be really fun if either the kick for it was made so u dont get shot into it and u got shot up more, or the hole tube got tilted. But overall fun place to ride, and the condition right now destroy those of fortune.
AHHH, the huge jump is gone! and it's been replaced with a shitty 20fter. I was very disappointed tonight, if they didn't have a bunch of good rails I woulda been pissed.
it was bigger and better before, the jump itself isn`t shitty just shittier then it was before simply because its smaller. But its good to learn switch stuff on so it all works out.
We had to make the jump smaller becasue it was way illegal, any hill that doesnt have a park pass system cannot build a jump open to the public where riders regularly jump 50ft or more, so says the insurance companies.
we can't build a 49ft gap becasues chances are your not going to perfectly clear 50ft on the nose every time, more then likely you'll be clearing 60+, you come close to clearing 50ft when you hit this jump and land in a desent spot comfortably past the knuckle.
I don't like making stuff smaller and niehter does the rest of the park staff, if it were up to us we would building crazy features that maybe 5% of the ski and boarder population would have the balls to hits, but we can't so we do what we gotta to do like any other job.
I want to say first, props to whoever is making the Edelweiss park. I have been a couple times in the last two weeks and its a easily the most complete park in this area. lots of fun to.
this point about it being illegal to make 50+ft jumps in a non park pass park, isn't entirly true. i can name off a couple parks that have 50ft+ jumps on the east coast and more on the west coast without park passes to get into their parks. its just a matter of your insurance company, and from my experiance from building parks its more about how much of a tight ass the person in charge of safety in the park will allow.
there are many ways around the point about only having 5% of the riders able to hit the jumps. my boss last year at big white Flynn Seddon(supervised the park and events) said you have to make something for everyone. this means double take offs on each table, so that people have the choice to take the small side or big side.
peace
Yeah, march 18th, I'll post a flyer as soon as possible. were thinking its going to involve the flat-down box set-up and the big air (most likely built a bit bigger for the day), cash prizes aswell.
they have one the biggest jumps in the area now other then tremblant but this jump is looking nice they even put up fenceing so little kids cant snow plow off the side
Sorry no flyer but i couldnt get my hands on the thing, anyways comp this saterday 18th not to sure when registration is but it will be a big air comp and possible the box setup. There is 2000 dollars in merchandise prizes and the winners will also take home whatever money is pooled up from the registration. DJ's will be spining all day and the bar might even give us deals for the apres ski. I would show up early 9:00 to register and practice. see ya'll there
