Replying to Reconditioning a used pair of skis

Hey guys I just got some 2002 Head mad trix off of ebay for under $150 with knowledge of them being in used condition. My question is how you would go about reconditioning the TOP of the ski, I am already going to get the bottoms flattened and waxed andthe edges grinded, but I was wondering how to go about reconditioning the tops. There are some light surface scratches on them. I was wondering if it would be ok to take the bindings off, wet sand the tops with a very fine grit sand paper, and spray them with some protectant clear coat paint, would be ok or is there a better way to do it... any help would be greatly appreciated.
