my shop sells rossi, volkl, k2, salomon, and 4frnt. every rep said that the skis are good to go out the door, factory tuned and waxed. i can't speak for other companies, but if every company we sell has a factory wax, then they all probably do.
even if they do come with factory wax it doesn't really help. the factory wax is just rolled on without heating the ski so the wax doesnt actually get in the pores of the base. if you really care about waxing you need to use an iron.
gosh people are sooooo smart it amazes me...next time you buy a new pair of skis compare how long the factory wax lasts vs. your wax job. actually i'll just tell you, the factory wax lasts a lot longer.
if you mean that it doesnt ski off as fast than maybe, but factory wax is just a coat to make sure they don't dry out. its not better than waxing with an iron.
whether or not it feels like they go fast right out of the wrapper, you SHOULD hot wax them before you ski them. But then again, this is just for peak performance, after you hit a few rails, the difference is negligible.

Most skis come waxed off a roller from the factory. In other words, they come waxed but the wax sucks. So regardless of how they come from the factory, wax them anyway.
actually factory skis come unwaxed and they are supposed to be ground and then waxed multiplte times when brand new. Ask any ski racer who knows how to tune skis
come on people. the factory wax is for shipping purposes, you should get your skis waxed when you buy them AND detune the tip and tail. The factory gets your edges sharper than you ever will be able to, so don't fuck with them.
wow, factory wax is the shittiest shit ever. how cant you tell if you need wax or not? you rub the back of your hand on the base and then you ask yourself, "do i need to wax these?"
its getting the best stone grind and factory wax. even if they dont physically wax it. you dont need need to do anything because it's straight from the factory/manufacturer. its smooth and does not need any wax. but if u want, it can't hurt.

ALL SKIS come from the factory with a factory wax. this factory wax is nothing more than rolled on parafin, which is what ski wax is, minus all the chemicals and additives that help with speed. it is there solely to prevent the skis from shipping with a dry base. it doesnt last, and is not at all fast.
and yes. when your skis are new, you should hotwax them. ALOT. the first few waxes are super importnant to building up the base, and waxing them multiple times really helps contaminate the base with wax. so far, i have waxed my skis EVERY time i have ridden this season.
now, as for how to tell when your skis need waxed. when your base becomes dry, it needs wax. dry bases look like there is a white grain over the base, versus glossy. they also feel dry to the touch. a waxed ski is pretty much frictionless feeling, and is shinny.
and yes, waxing a ski makes a HUGE difference in the preformance. especially on slower hills. there, the added glide is very noticable. so bottom line, you really should wax your skis. and if you cant do it yourself, learn. its incredibly easy. and it beats spending 30 + for a shop to do it.
You are an idiot if you are one of those people who put wax on their skis the second you buy them... i hate it when people do that at my shop... so i give them race wax since they need to go sooo damn fast :)
yeah for real. sorry if i dont like to have to skate my ass off into every jump, and that i enjoy having a ski that is tuned to make my ridding more fun. i ski a small ass hill, and in order to clear some of our bigger jumps, your skis better be fast as shit. and tunning your skis the right way makes jibbing 100 X easier.
