I was reading time this moring at brreakfast and turned the page to an article on fisrt decsent. I could only laugh the whole movies shot with product placement for Mountain Dew. Now I know every movie has sponsers but moutian dews not an annouced sponsers and thye actually created shows and put stickers in places on purpose. A true sign of how consumer focused snowbaording is. So the next time you pray for osmething mainstream think aout what a joke it may turn OUR sport into.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a ski-thru Wendys (McDonalds sucks ass) at a mountain. You ski up get a hamberger and then keep skiing while eating. Multitasking to the EXTREME.

did you ever think that they needed a sponser as big as Mountain Dew to make a movie like this? Red Bull sponsors skiing shit all the time

word. i think it's kinda funny that someone's laughing at the fact that there's product placement in a snowboard film, especially when there's so much of it in ski movies, yet no one really seems to care. let's just be glad that our sports are becoming popular enough that someone in the right position of power feels that a feature movie should be made about them.

bitch about mt dew all you want, but their money keeps many of your favourite pro athletes eating, drinking, and sleeping in comfortable homes.
Not to mention that mt dew was around as a sponsor long before most other lame ass corporate McCompanies were. They jumped onto action sports long before any other one, and went at it in a much better manner than most.
Don't hate. Their money was damn useful and did the industry as a whole a lot of good. Did they take advantage? Sure, that's more or less what any kind of advertising/sponsorship does. Did it result in increased sales for a product that was basically sitting and getting stagnant on shelves? Fuck ya. But don't think for a second that action sports didn't benefit from Mt Dew money as much as they benefitted from the extra sales revenue.
Oh, and btw, Mt Dew payed for the movie because it was less expensive and more effective than traditional advertising. And I'd be willing to bet that the athletes involved got tons of cash. And athletes need to eat just like the rest of you.

I think there's a degree to which product placement is fine, but sometimes a company goes overboard. take for example warren miller's latest. I don't mind seeing nature valley bars once in a while but i dont want to see it 30 times in a movie. it actually gave me a worse impression of a brand that i like.

The nature valley bars wasn't even the most ridiculous part of the warren miller movie.
Freezframing everysingle jeep logo in the movie was complete bullshit and ruined what could have beena decent movie. Granted jeep is paying a couple hundred thousand for the sponsorship, but there comes a point where you need to cut budgets in order to make a movie that doesn't suck. Warren miller isn't doing this.

bitch bitch bitch.. geez. you guys are all whiners about product placement. im sure if armada or [insert non-commercial popular company here] made product placement like that none of you would bitch cause you all think armada is the greatest. mt dew helped put extreme sports on the map. jeep is a great vehicle for going to the mtn.
you think people would be happy to watch a movie pertaining to their sport, hobby, whatever it be on the big screen right next to the latest shitty miramax film with ben affleck in it.. but no. you all bitch about an aluminum can being shown in a movie.. lets forget about the bombin of valdez, the huge steeze 3 or any of that.. instead lets nitpick a movie on the big screen instead of enjoyin it with our overpriced popcorn

Mountain Dew is so much bigger than Red Bull. How many restaurants can you get red bull out of the pop gun?

wow, you mean sponsors for a movie dont just give the movie tons of money just cause they think its cool? Product placement is perfectly legit, when you throw masive amounts of money into something (such as mountain dew certaintly has) you expect to get something in return.
And if anyone thinks somehitng like 1st descent is bad, then just shutup. Yea, it may not tell EXactly what happens in snowboarding, but it sure as hell will probably provide a better picture to massive amounts of people out there.
Wouldnt you like to have people on the street be able to appreciate what we do?
i certaintly would. I also rollerblade, and let me tell you, it sucks to try and skate when the general public has almost no understanding of what skating is. although once most people open an eye to what is happening, they realize thats its pretty awesome.

retards.
mountain dew has an action sports film company, or so the preview says.
if its their production company OF COURSE you will see their logo everywhere...
and if you havent seen the movie stfu.
i didnt notice any placement save for the atheletes drinking it and having stickers like they always do.

Does Mountain Dew sponsor any skiers..? have any skiers in their commercials?
Do they sponsor any freerides skiing events? Or are they all about lining themselves up with snowboarding and skating?

Mountain Dew is gettin better. Our sports are now being viewed by the masses as almost legitimate sports with real atheletes competing instead of marketing ploys. Mountain Dew has always been without a doubt one of the main sponsors of the X Games. If you recall the first few XG's, basically anything could be a sport as long as there were enough competetors to fill all 3 of the medal podiums. They had like barefoot stunt waterski jumping for christ's sake and like modified shovel racing in the winter. EXPN.com still has videos up in their archives. It was pitiful. Mountain Dew wanted to be XTREME and wanted to cater to all the kids that got sucked into the crazy XXtreme hype. Look at it now, the XG is a legitimate competition that airs primetime and gets respect from the major sports channels and magazines. Now that the bullshit sports have been weeded out and the whole 'Xtreme' image has been dropped, Mountain Dew is supporting the progression of these legitimate sports. The Mt Dew label will always be viewed as the xtreme company who supported some of those stupid sports, but thats the past. Mt Dew can't really change their image, they are stuck with it and it takes time. The upside to them supporting anything starting with the word 'xtreme' or ending in the word 'boarding' in the past is that they nurtured some of the real action sports we have today, and they continue to support them. Mt Dew helped snowboarding take on their crazy extreme image, and now that it is a real sport and not just a marketing device, they will continue to support them.
