Drugs, Drink and Skiing DON'T mix

Recently I've been reading a lot of posts about kids bragging about skiing while high/drunk and to be honest it's really starting to irritate me.
Drugs and alcohol lower and impair your concentration and coordination.
Let me tell you a brief story about my friend's mum. She was on a skiing holiday in Tignes (France) and was just chilling on the side of the piste. She sees this guy suddenly hurtling down the mountain and he's heading straight for her. Before she has a chance to move they have a massive collision. This kid seems unhurt and seeing what he has done quickly gets up and skis off without even a word so he doesn't get in trouble. Meanwhile my friend's mum is left lying in the snow with several smashed bones in her body, including her leg and collarbone. Her leg was in plaster for a year and she has never been able to ski since. In fact she hasn't been able to play tennis or golf since either, and she probably never will be able to. What's this got to do with alcohol/drugs I hear you ask? Well, someone saw what happened and managed to catch up with this little shitbag. He managed to hold him for a couple of minutes before the kid managed to push him away and escape, but this guy said that the kid was clearly totally wasted and stank of alcohol. This kid probably thought it would be a bit of a giggle to get drunk at lunch and ski the afternoon but sadly it didn't turn out so well for my friend's mum and now she will never ski again.
Skiing "under the influence" is totally irresponsible and incredibly selfish. Next time you think about doing it just stop for a moment and think about the lives you are putting in danger, not just your own, but everyone else who is out there on the slopes too.
Skiing while drunk/high is like the people who think it's ok to drink drive if there are no other passengers in the car. What about the other innocent and responsible people using the roads, why should their lives be put at risk because you made a bad decision?
Leave the alcohol and drugs at home for when you get back from a hard day of riding. If you wouldn't drive a car drunk/high then you shouldn't ski that way either.

you must have never skied while high or drunk? now i understand where your coming from and you shouldnt ski while intoxicated or high, but have u ever done it? i mean damn its so much fuckin fun....but uh yeah dont do it....

Honestly if u can ski a nice smoke sesh or some alchi to warm the blood is harmless...Accidents like that are more of an out of control, inexperienced skiers problem. Minus a few bad eggs!!

meh, i wake up probably 3 times a month drunk and go skiing, it completely annihalates any hangover. it's def not a good idea to ski hammered though, high is a different story, its kinda nice to rip around the mountain with a little buzz goin on

Don't i know it! More drunk from the night before than I could ever be in the daytime. I mean stop driking at 5am and on the hill at 8am. When am I to sober up? Get felling realy fatigued and crapped out around lunch time though

i dont know man i agree that alcohol impairs your abillity to ski. But i know people that ski better when high and i know that for some people weed makes them concentrate better. i am not telling you to go get stoned as a boulder field but i am saying that it affects some people defferently than others.

Hey rich i completely agree with you because you know why? Your right and stop being a mom about it. Most of the hardcore skiers I know dont even drink or smoke. Skiing hungover isnt fun unless your wake up drunk but majority of skiers are not social peoeple. Skiing is an individual sport and people remain quiet and chill. Most hardcore newschoolers are not all about big parties and stuff but more of just chill friendly atomspheres. I mean they just don't like to party or know how to. Skiing has always been this way and if they are crazier parties chances are they arent about the skiing and more about the partying. Me personally i try to balance both but its very hard. So your right richy.

wait a sec, the rest of you guys don't agree with this? what the hell is wrong with you? if a pro-skier tells you to do something, you fuckin' do it!! how else are you gonna appear cool in the eyes of the people that matter? clearly skiing ability alone doesn't amount to shit anymore. honestly, how many kids do you know that should be sponosored? (maybe your one of 'em) but the companies don't pick them up because that don't have something setting them apart from everyone else. then they get a demo vid of some kid stumbling drunk in the lift-lines, smokin' fatties on the gonji, and stomping some serious tricks and lines, and they're like, "WOW!!" give this kids some free shit! i tell you now, if you want to be a big name skier, start intoxicated yourself before riding.
i suggest starting with heroin.

Firs of all, a beer or 2 during the afternoon while skiing can really give you a nice, warm feelings and reenergize the day. I've never skied wasted so I can't comment on that.
BUT, I don't see how skiing high can be put into the same category. When I ski after smoking, I'm actually MORE cautious than if I was sober. I'm always looking over my shoulder and checking where people are because I'm afraid of getting hit by dumbasses. I've also skied some of my most technical lines and tree runs, not to mention jumps and rails, while stoned. So I don't know if it really impairs your motor skills.
Don't ski after eating mushrooms though. That's not fun at all. The more I skied down the mountain, the farther away the base kept getting.

^ nope. Im dead serious. I always feel like the biggest alcoholic around other serious skiers. It what i have noticed A LOT on the east coast I dont kno how it is out west. Pros may drink but I bet most of them didnt until they were pro.

To be fair I don't really have much experience with weed. I've had a few tokes and smoked a bong once or twice but that shit doesn't agree with me. When I was talking about drugs I was thinking more of that "acid/shrooms" post than weed.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not one of those boring fucks that harps on about how "drugs and drink ruin the inner sanctum of my temple that is known as my body". I'm englsish and everyone knows we enjoy a beer or two, I just don't think the slopes is the right place for that stuff, save it for the evening.
