I think that stealing something that actually belongs to someone is pretty lame.
I buy a crapload of poles at the thrift shop or ski swaps for super cheap so I don't have to worry baout breakage or my shit being stolen. I have never had any problems with my poles being stolen, I leave all my stuff on teh snow for lunch or whatever else I may do in the lodge.

well if you're asking this, i assume that you also lock up your skis. y not just run the cable from your ski lock through the loops on your poles?

Probably. They'd still physically be easy to jack, but it'd look a lot more suspicious if some dude was yanking on them until the strap came through the cinch thing.

if you cut your poles in half and then put a wood dowel inside it will give it a lot of stregnth without a lot of extra legnth. the more time you spent shaping the dowel the better your pole will be.

if you're so scared that someone is going to jack your poles, use a cable lock. run it through the brake on your skis and wrap it nice and tight around your poles.
that's all i've got. i've really never locked my poles

i don't steal rental poles, i "rent" them for free when i need them, and turn them back in last day of the season. last year i had a pair of poles i "borrowed" 4 years ago, figured out i would have to give them back

If you usually keep your wrist straps at the same length why not just super glue the buckle so you can't un-lace the straps, then run the lock through the straps.

Buy some cross country poles. Huge ones, like 8 feet long woth boots so big you can get HBO on it. Sure you'll look like a knob, but you could easily find them once their stolen.

Here is the bottom line...
Real skiers respect other skiers, regardless of perceived wealth or your own grossly mispercieved entitlement.
The comments "oh he is rich and won't mind me stealing" is complete bullshit and not proper justification.
I'll put it this way,. you steal someones ski gear, you deserve to have everything you own stolen from you. You steal my poles, I'll steal your car and your girlfriend. there is no moral difference between stealing soemthing of less "value" than something of higher "value". Those poles you rip off might be a struggeling instructor's who cannot afford another pair. Who the fuck are you to judge who is worthy from stealing from.
Skiers who steal are dirtbags! You are the scum of our sport and deserve nothing but blown acl's and suffering.
Oh, but you only steal from rental shops? But then you whine all day lond about how much a hamburger costs? W'ell guess what assclown, it is because of idiots like you stealing services that cause resorts to have higher prices.
So to those of you who ride with stolen gear, go suck a dick sideways and stay the hell off of my mountains

i always found that if you put your poles on the ski rack in a realy really akward way, such a way that makes it really hard and annoying to get the poles off unless you know how u put them on, whoever wants to steal them will give up. and ive never had any poles stolen. ive only broken 6 pairs
