well i have escaped this injury for many seasons now but it finally got my ass the other week. the doctor says ill be out for 6months but i was curious if any you troopers out there who have torn their acls were back on the slopes before six months because i thought summer was bad but six months... i mean shit.
i heard Phil Belanger was back on skis in 3 months... but he only partially tore his and i am sure he rehabbed crazy amounts. 6 months is actually not as long as some... i thought it was usually 9 months normally...
really not supposed to until 6 months. no matter how much muscle you build, the graft needs to get mature.
so while you will probably be able to ski again at 4 or 5 months, you shouldnt, because you are still highly at risk for tearing it again, even if your muscles are STRONGER than before.
right now, i'm at 4 months post surgery for mine..but i completely tore mine, and tore my meniscus.
I'm going to be back on snow at the beginning of february.
wait at least 5 months...that shit takes a long time to heal. you dont want to go through that hell twice because you didnt wait long enough. dont be a tard.
i just strained my CL's in both knees after a hard bail and i couldn't even walk for a month. took months after that before i didn't feel pain, and even to this day (maybe 4-5 years later) my knees aren't at 100%. my advice is do NOT re-injure that shit. it's like being on probation. once you get caught again, you're fucked for good. so you gotsta be careful from now on.
I haven't torn it but last year I pulled a 900 with a full arm cast. But an ACL could put you out. My arm is srewed up now cuz I did that shit. So with an ACL you want to do the six months and maybe a little bit longer cuz you don't want to hurt it more. It could really get you when your older.
I had my ACL surgery done 2 weeks ago and started PT today. Was talking to the doctor today and he said I'm looking at about 4-6 months to start heavy exercise on the knee. I wouldn't risk it though, think of the process you would have to go through again.
My advice is to stay out for as long as the docter tells you to. you don't want to ruin the rest of your ski seasons because you wanted to get back on the slopes faster. trust me
I took off 6 months of any heavy injury, after my surgery. Then I went skiing and it still hurt so I hit the rehab really hard and it felt good about 7 months after the surgery. But I still get knee pain sometimes on big compressions... just wear the brace, and definitly take 6 months.
