Gotama's Vs AK Maidens

You can't go wrong with either.

If you like stiffer skis, get the Gots.

If you like softer skis, get the Made'ns.

Does either ski better in pow than the other?
And if you are goiong to take one inbounds sometimes which is the better if you have to ski some groomed?

I haven't been on the Gots, but I know plenty of people who ski them as an everyday ski.

Either ski will excel in the pow.

I've owned a few pairs of Made'ns, both 179 and 189 and found them to be more versatile on the entire mountain than I originally expected.

they both ski pow well but the gotamas suck at everything else, get the maidens

i think iggyskier has a pair of gots for touring. i think he said they were really good.

both pretty similar dimentions but different flex. If its for more pow get the made'ns if its more big mtn get gots.

i think a gotama would be better compared to a SV than a made'n personally.

Gotama = stiff

made'n = soft

that is about the only difference really.

Both will be great in pow, both can be skied everyday if you actually know how to ski. I know many people who ski a 190 gotama everyday and have no problems. It has less sidecut than the Made'n, so not as friendly on groomers, but if you can't make it work then you suck at skiing.

As far as an everyday ski....the Made'n is gonna be easier to ski due to its softness. The gotama will be a little harder in bumps and such, but again both skis are usable in all conditions.

For note - my 179 SP is about the same size as the 183 gotama, and the 189 SV is a few cm longer than the 190 gotama.

Really, you can't go wrong with either ski.

If you bigger, ski pretty fast, and plan on doing little park, I would choose the gotama.

If you want a more user friendly everyday get the Made'n. The sidecut will make groomers easier and it is better in the park than the Gotama.

i had gottamas last year, and ive got maidens this year.
with the gottamas, they are pretty stiff, and they do really well on groomers or skiing powder really fast and stuff, they definatly float really well, only dont make the same mistake i did, get the 183's not 176. and for park/ bc jumps and stuff, i actually liked them alot, not too great for rails, but on jumps they spin pretty easy and there really stable for landings.

i only skiied the 179 maidens 3 days, but i got to use them in about a foot of pow for a couple runs, and they do float better than the gottamas, and they were better than the gottamas for tree skiing too probably because of the softness. and on groomers they dont ski quite as good as the gottamas but pretty close. and in chopped up crappy snow they just plow through anything easily, and you can seriously just go straight through mogul runs, just not big moguls.
and in the park they are very very fun. they are heavier than the gottamas and a little harder to spin, but they are the most fun ski ive used on rails ever.

the maidens do well going really fast through anything, powder, moguls, and everything, and they ski well through trees and stuff too.

gottamas are really fun when your going really really fast through powder, and they dont do as good if your not. and there a little better on groomers.

overall i like the maidens more, they are alot more fun, and i almost think they are more versitile than the gottamas, while doing better in crud, powder and all that.

yeah, good thing to mention.

the twin is HUGE. the running length of the 183 gotama is like 165. So, they ski short.

If I wasn't touring on mine, I would have gone for the 190.

So what exactly are you skiing in "big mountain?" Solid ice? Groomed snow?

big mountain isn't always just a field of powder.

it is often big faces where your travelling very fast. The gotama will be better there due to its stiffness.

Or look at most big mountain comps - they dont happen on powder days. often the run is icy and skied out.

There is a huge difference between skiing powder and big mountain. When most people on here talk about skiing big mountain it is pretty amusing.

I never said it was wide open faces bella coola style with deep deep powder.
The only backcountry I ride is flooded with trees and pillows and cliffs.

And the BC skiing you described isn't big mountain skiing. it is just skiing BC.

The term "big mountain" gets thrown around way too much.
